Can I get away with this?

I changed all of the shifter bushings and the clutch cable. It appears that this new clutch cable is shorter than the old one, because I can't fit the thick washer onto the end of the cable, and put a jam nut on there, too. There is not enough adjustment at the front end of the cable to address this, and moving the release arm by one spline gets it too close to the case.

What can happen as a result of leaving the thick washer off?

looks fine to me, as long as there's a tad bit of freeplay.

I wonder if after a few weeks of use, you might re-check and see if the cable has stretched a bit (enough to put it back the way it was) ?
