Can I Remove and Replace a CIS Fuel Distributor with the air box on the car?

I am putting in my new CIS air box and runners, and was wondering if I can put the new fuel distributor and lines on after with everything in place. It's just a tight fit and it would be easier for me to mount it to the top when everything is already setup in the car. I pulled all the old stuff off in one lump with no ritual on how I got it off. Thanks

you need a slot screw style socket and a ratchet to fit, as there's not much room for a screwdriver to get at the 3 screws holding it on. other that that, there's the fittings on the far side that aren't too hard to detatch. keep the piston from falling out on removal.

Hard to do just the FD, but it's a pretty easy job if the FD and metering plate are already mated together and inserted as a unit. I feel it helps access if the throttle body is left for last.

How about doing a partial engine drop? I did one over the winter when I was accessing my fuel lines and it gives you a lot of room up top to work. Would also be a good time to replace your sound deadening if it needs to be replaced. Lots of threads on the details of doing it so I won't expand on the subject. Warren

Thank you for the great responses. I just might do the partial engine drop to get in there. There is a lot less in there on a '75 than later models, but I don't want to fight it for hours and hours.

I think I will put the distributor on there, but how about leaving the lines off until last? It's going to be a pain with so much dangling not to mention 6 fuel lines...

Just to expand on what JW said, slip something under the FD when you go to lift it out. If the piston falls out and hits something hard, it could be ruined.

Remove complete metering assembly from airbox and do it on the bench. 6 screws?
Less chance to mess it up.
