Easiest way to access horns?

Trying to knock off another small project today -- replacing the horns with some Hella super tones I've had sitting on the bench for a while.

What's the easiest thing to do? Move the Mocal oil cooler out of the way or pull the front bumper? Or can I get away with just pulling the valance?

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

I just replaced mine with new original equipment trumpet horns. Didn't have to take anything off or even jack the car. The horns are held on with a single nut. I got it on and off with a 12" extension per the advice I found in another thread.

Rest assured you do not have to pull the valance or remove the front bumper.

I have twice done this job on my '86 Carrera,-------originally to replace the old horns with new ones and only yesterday to tighten one of the horns that had become loose. I simply jacked up the front of the car and used a 13mm socket on the end of a long extension to remove the two mounting bolts.

I was then able to manoeuvre the two horns together with their mounting bracket out from under the car, tighten the offending nut and replace. One of the quickest jobs I have done! Some car's wiring set up may not allow the horns to be pulled out from underneath in which case removal of the

valance or front bumper may be necessary.

Best of luck!

Yep, thanks for the better summary for what I attempted to describe.

I'd also mention that I was able to get the horns in and out without lifting the car, although it would certainly help some.

Thanks, I've got the front up on stands now. No idea how you pulled it off without jacking it up. I do have the car lowered to Euro height though.

I'm letting some PB blaster soak in right now. One of the nuts holding one horn looks like it is misshaped. I'm having a hard time getting bite on it using a 15mm socket. 14mm won't fit. The other one a 14mm fits no problem.

While I'm letting the PB blaster soak I thought I would take care of another little project. I bought a new motor for the front condenser fan. While I was trying to get the 2mm Allen set screw out of the old squirrel cage fan, I snapped off the head of my Allen wrench in the screw. Grrrrrrrr!!!! Now I guess I need to drill it out. Why is it the easy things are always harder than they should be?
