Windshield replacement options
Looking for an suitable windshield replacement. Windshield guy replaced a Sigla with a FY (Fujian Yanhua) which is made in China and probably the worst in quality. Factory seal was used. This windshield did not fit and left a gap at the top two corners.
I have an 82 SC with an electric antenna so do not need the Porsche windshield with the built in antenna which cost around 800? Would like a clear replacement. PPG makes one but with a shade or color band at the top of the windshield. Any suggestions? |

Bought my Sigla tinted from Stoddard with no antenna wire for my 82. A bit pricey though

Check the classifieds ProSource had/has w/s for sale between $3-400. St.Gobain-Sekurit windshield shouldn't be more than $400. Try another independent windshield guy. Mine sourced factory glass for me for not much more than $300. Pilkington is another brand that's rec'd good reviews here. Lastly are you sure it's the glass and not the install? Plenty of corner issues reported on the forum with St.Gobain-Sekurit glass. -J

I have an aftermarket too and it fits like s**t! Not only do the corners not work but water gets around the glass in the seal.
Have just recovered my dash and so decided to deal with the windshield situation now that the windshield is out... Put silicone into the glass seat in the seal. What oozes out can be cleaned up right away (before dry) with mineral spirits. Once installed, have used electrical tape to seal the rubber to the car. I know... "Electrical tape!" how flintstone can I get! It does sounds like a dumb fix but if the tape is pulled just right all around it mates rubber and car evenly. And if there's no wobble to the line of the tape and the corners are nicely curved... only a concourse inspector would pick it out. Tried 3m brand electrical tape and it was too glossy black --- so it stood out too much IMHO. Regular Ace brand tape is a flatter, more invisible black. Finally. No more leaks.

Try 3M Auto Bedding and Glazing Compound 8509 under the trim to stop the leaks.

I called one Porsche parts place (not dealer) and they recommended using body putty.
![]() Well that is not for me. I am able to return the windshield since it was just installed recently and still looking for a replacement. |

For $5 more a month, I get no deductible comp (State Farm). They are paying for a Porsche windshield and windshield gasket installment on my '85 Carrera.

I bought a new windshield about 2 years ago from Safelite. Fits fine. Little over a Benjamin.
