930 vs. 911 front control arms

THis question has been asked before but I've never seen it answered in any of the threads I've pulled up when searching the forum. The 77-on 930 has a front control arm that is different from a 911 control arm. Both use the same one-piece sway bar, so that's not the difference. It also has nothing to do with the anti-dive geometry used on a 930, as that is accomplished with other parts on the car. So, anybody know what the difference is? Are they longer from the torsion bar center line to the ball joint? Are they reinforced in some way? I've sold both of my turbos so I can't just wander out into the garage and look for myself.

Thanks,
JR

The bushing housings have the spacers at the front that gives part of the anti-dive (the other is the crossmember mount sheetmetal being raised). The bushings only come pre-installed on the A-arm from Porsche, so the different part number would be because of the different bushing housings. I think.

Wasn't the spacer a separate part? The one I'm thinking of is installed into the aluminum crossmember.

There is no spacer in the crossmember. There are spacers that are integral to the front mounts that lower the front of the A-arm. Then the chassis has been cut away and a new panel welded in where the crossmember mounts. You can see the chassis seam cut where this was done. The crossmember is the same. If I remember the rear is 20mm higher, the front 8mm lower.

Part number 2 in the diagram is what I was thinking of for the spacer. 930's only...

I stand corrected, but isn't the crossmember the same for the 911 and 930?

Anyway, that spacer would reduce anti-dive. The sheetmetal in that area is higher which gives the desired kinematics.

Yes, the crossmember is the same.
