When I bought my '77 Targa in Feb, it came with two keys: a red key that fits the ignition and nothing else and a black key that fits the left door and nothing else. Neither of these are original Porsche keys. Both have a groove down the middle plus 2 channels (slightly wider grooves) on both sides.
I bought a black key blank from the Porsche dealer. It has a groove down the middle and one channel. My Owners Manual (Thanks, Dennis) says the black key is the master key and the red key is the valet key (ignition & doors). I would like to make a "master" key from my red key. Since neither of my keys function correctly, I wonder if the this will work. What do you suggest? Frank P.S. I am also reviewing Wayne's "Rekeying Porsche Locks" project. |

Keep reading the rekeying locks tech article. Sounds like the locks have been changed in the past. If you rekey the red key I think all you will be able to do is use it in the ignition.
