Help with performance decisions

I have an 85 3.2 Targa. 48,000 miles, all stock. Car is in superb condition. The motor/ tranny is out as Ollie is doing a valve job.
The question is my mechanic has a cat bypass and 964 cams he could put in it for a pittance.
Thought that might spice up the power a little bit as we are at 5,000 feet but wonder if it wouldn't hurt resale value, as the rest of the car is all stock or is it a non issue? I don't plan on selling, but you never know.

The both of those will help, but you'll also need a SW chip to get the most out of it. The cam and the chip are invisible and the bypass is easily reversible. I don't see the downside.

But then again I didn't buy my car as an investment, so I'd understand if there was another pov.

I would think over the cam. Your mileage will probably suffer five mpg. Peppier, yep.

If done right, I doubt it will mess with the value much except for the ultra original collectors.

Can you get the old cams back?

I believe you need to set the spring height to the 964 level. Don't know how much difference that is from stock 3.2.

Do the bypass, skip the cam.
It is not easily reversible and there are fewer and fewer original 3.2's out there.
Your car has very little milage on the clock, it and will be sought after if you look to sell for 30k miles more.

Not an easy reverse is a very fair statement. New valve guides will be stronger than original so "next" time around may be quite a while. If the car is going to remain a garage queen, 10-ish hp is a nice kick for the 3.0/3.2 on the occasional spin.

Having the original cams will help your story.

Bypass as well as the Steve Wong chip only?

You could post your question in the 911 marketplace discussion forum. Some of the prices I have seen for cream puff" 3.2's are jaw dropping.

I don't have any plans on selling. I do appreciate the ideas and probably will just leave it stock.

98 mm pistons and cylinders would be a good but not so cheap way to pick up some more HP too as long as you have the heads off... Then you get a 3.4.

do you need to go through emissions testing in Ft. Collins? Conventional wisdom is that a carrera won't pass colorado emissions without a cat.
