bilstein shocks

Hi,
i'm planning to change shock assorters on my carrera '84 and I'm looking to the bilstein range.They have different settings from stock to 1000 lakes.
Any experience and with what setting?

I am running Bilstein Sports on all four corners. They are a bit harsh but I do not mind at all! The car runs flat into the corners and stays there... Al the bushings were replaced as well. I am running 16 X 8 205 /50 Dunlop tires as well. The car was lowered and has Turbo tie rods.

It runs hard but again I don't mind...

There are differences wrt the exterior threading on the race race shocks vs no threading on the street shocks, so if not using coil overs and no need for threaded shocks the usual choice comes down to Sport or HD, neither is perfect out of the box, but many use HD front and Sport rear or HD all around(930s and old Carreras either came w/ these or had them as options).

These are all old school designs and can greatly benefit from a rebuild w/ a digressive valve set up(even when new) tuned to the springs/chassis and usage, a shop familiar w/ this is a real asset

I just had my Bilsteins revalved with a digressive set-up (that I don't believe the off the shelf HD or sport have) and it is really nice. They were redone at the Bilstein factory in Poway, CA. I would have to look up the specs but you can either have a race shop organize it for you or I have heard the customer service guys there can guide you (I have no experience with this).

The advantage is that small frequency deflections (ruts) have a softer rebound than when loading the car (think Hatzenbach to Hocheichen on the Nordschleife).

thanks all,
well here in europe we have at least 5 types of bilstein and they are: stock,sport ( turbo set-up ), sport street,sport track and 1000 lakes.
that should be the scale from the softest one to the hardest.
I'm very confusing because I suppose that for the stiffer ones a thicker roll bar is needed.
Does any had the sport street or sport track tested?
My goal is to have some similar to the carrera cs version.

Most of us have only the sports or HD to choose from.

If I were you, I would choose the one that would fit what you use your 911 for- track, street.

I have the sport on all 4 corners. Those plus a half-cage gives a pretty harsh ride but rewards me on the track.

Check what set up you have stock before you buy. The stock boge shocks are very good too if you do mostly street/ mountain and occasional track days.
