Interesting option code...
Good afternoon guys,
My car came without a "option sticker" under the front bonnet, or by the wheel wheel. I had suncoast run the vin for me. Most of the options I am familiar with. One, I have never seen before. Option 912 " Vehicle without identification plate". Has anyone seen this before? My car does not have the metal "vin" badge on the front passenger fender. I thought someone removed it when the did the glass out repaint. Can anyone chime in? Also, What was the "increased side door strength?" Was the for the us market? Thanks alot guys! ![]() Code Option Description 018 Sport steering wheel with elevated hub 020 Speedometer with 2 scales KPH/MPH 158 Radio "Monterey" - 86 "Reno" - 87 185 Automatic 2 point rear seat belts 190 Increased side door strength 218 License brakets front and rear 454 Automatic speed control 464 Without compressor and tire pressure gauge 474 Sport shock absorbers (Bilsteins) 484 Symbols for controls 576 Without rear fog light 912 Vehicle without identification plate

I think #912 means no model logo on the decklid. Later cars don't have the metal plate on the fender, I believe. I know mine doesn't.
Yes, #190 is side impact beams in the doors, required in the USA.

Hmm, The original owner should have asked for the model identification plate in a paper bag. It would probably be worth $$$$ today in the classifieds. Who Knew?

Not mine, but I've seen cars listed now and then with "rear emblem delete" listed as an option or on the COA.

Arne, Thank you. Its a very interesting option. I dont understand why someone would not want the logo on the deck lid.

Emblem delete is fairly common in Europe. Not sure why, but BMWs, Benzes and even Audis can be ordered that way.

One of the reasons, I think, is because many model plates designate engine size (like BMW, Mercedes), and vehicles are taxed by horsepower. If they go stealth, no one knows for sure if they have the bigger engine (more prestige). Of course, whenever is see a car without the plate, I assume its the smaller engine

IMHO, the latest 911's are over-the-top with rear lid badging. Bill K

Though on a Carrera, this wouldn't be the reason. Maybe just cosmetic preference ![]() I enjoy the badge delete on my M5 because it makes the car even more of a sleeper.

Reviving an old thread. What does “symbols for controls” mean? I’m sure it’s something simple.
