I want a Mexico Blue 911 SC

Should I do a full restoration with window and interior out paint job? Is a fully restored and rebuilt and color changed 911 SC worth 30k?

I could see a really nicely restored SC fetching $30k these days. Personally I would go arrow blue though(and eventually plan to).

A top quality true color change painting everything is gonna set you back $8-10K....money you won't likely recoup on resale. But if you want a blue car then paint it blur, enjoy it and don't worry about resale. Conversely a quality re spray of original color will cost less and likely you will be able to fetch a relatively higher price relatively speaking.

Unless somebody else just has to have a blue sc when you do get ready to sell.

Similar Interest, good topic

I've had a long term plan to repaint my guard red car to Mexico or similar blue just because. With no plan to sell anytime soon, I was leaning to a glass out, most of easy parts off/most of the car painted scenario. Mine will always be a driver and rock dings and road rash a reality. Is this just something to let a paint shop help me plan and then I manage it the best way possible.
Is there anything wrong with that scenario ?

I don't see the SC getting to a point like the 356s or an Ferrari where original paint color is a major important part to value. A high quality color change, driver car with solid mechanicals and interior will be a solid 30K. If it has 200K on the engine and a worn out interior, not so much.

If you are looking for a sound monetary investment, bad choice.

If you are looking for a good toy in the color you really want, good choice.

Here's my motivation. I'd be going with all black 17 inch Fuchs and already have the tea tray turbo tail. Just in love with this color with the black trim that an SC has.

185k on the odometer. Plan is top overhaul and conversion to 3.2SS. Freshen up the 915 gearbox which has LSD. New paint, new carpet, new headliner, replace/restore interior leather. I think after a restoration like that the previous odometer is pretty much irrelevant on these cars. Yea? No?

I think the top dollar were seeing on old air-cooled 911 post 1973 is for low mileage original cars. I have an 87 carrera g50 car and mine certainly isnt a $40k plus car. Its a reliable presentable driver and maybe a $20-25k car. Doesnt matter to me....I'm gonna enjoy it and let my estate worry about selling it.

Hi-Miler

Mine is another gaining miles fast car, 240k right now and gains 10+ per year. A new color to me is simply to make me happier and to clean up some 25+ year old paint issues. All the new paint dings will then be mine.

People said the same about Dinos for years.

my god, remember when Dinos were $45-60k for a nice one and no one considered them a 'true' Ferrari. I wish i had bought 4 of them!!! now, they're considered one of the most beautiful 'Ferraris' ever built and commanding $350-500k!

Just so you go into this with eyes open, I think that's Arrow Blue. Mexico Blue is pretty faint, whereas Arrow is a little richer.

I've always loved this Arrow Blue car.

I think I'll first get to a point where I am committed to take on the top overhaul...I'll see how that goes and if I get through it and I'm still motivated then ill set the engine aside and continue stripping the car and moving forward with full resto.

Maybe your right maybe it is Arrow blue that I like. I did a google search for arrow blue and this car came up. Love it! However there were some other "arrow blue" results that were too royal blue...not sure if google was just pulled some incorrect results or if arrow blue is different that this car.

Yeah, but the difference is that what? 5000 dinos were built over their various iterations? And 80,000 or so 911 short hoods were built between 1974 and 1989? Lot rarer.

Dueler true. But I'm just trying to not be upside down on a 25k investment. I'm not expecting my SC to be a $400k car. Id be happy with $30k
