alternator ground

I have 3 brown wires, two go to negative on alt. But I have a third short brown wire, where does it go. Does it go to one of the studs for the air deflector? Thanks...I took a pic before I took it off but it does not show it.

On my '83 the third brown ground wire goes to the engine case.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

My brown wire is like Tim's... grounded to case. But it's a "long" wire in my case. ('85 3.2)

The other two should be in the bundle that goes over to the 14-pin connector if my memory serves.

Read the updated information I posted from Porsche for '82 and earlier alternators in this thread. It mentions eliminating one of the brown wires that is no longer used, part 2.

Blue wire connects is the voltage regulator. Yes, part of the charging circuit.
