82 SC rattle - somehow tied to gear shifter

Bought the car about 4 months ago and always had a musical sort of rattle at rev, sort of thought it waa the AC rad was loose as I switched deck lids but it wasn't and was stumped for a while.

Then recently I simply held the gear shift knob toward one side of the free play while driving and it went away. Havent started crawling around under the car yet so thought to ask some wisdom from the group if you all had any ideas - loose/worn bushing? I am learning as I go, but by no means an accomplished mechanic.
Thanks

Check all of the bushings and attachments points related to the shifter and the coupler between the rear seats. While in there, you my want to adjust the coupler.

I did new (sport) engine and gearbox mounts, new couplers and bushes in the gear stick to gear box linkages and now it only does it in second

A shifter rattle is usually caused by the ball cup bushing, at the base of the shift lever, failing. If you have a center console you will have to figure out how to move it, and the carpet, in order to access the bolts that hold the shift tower in place. It's not difficult, but is a bit tricky. The goal is to lift the entire shift tower up and away from the tunnel in order to inspect the bushings.

Nothing but floorboards to look at underneath, the tunnel is contained fully within the passenger compartment of the car.
