When my car was repainted, I bought Hella H4's to replace the old H1's. The guy at the paint shop proudly announced that he put PIAA bulbs in the H4's for me. He was sure I would be happy. Oh well.
The wattage is matched, so no problem there. The PIAA brights are great, but the low beams are either weak, or just aimed too low. I go to the garage prepared to either adjust the lamps or replace the PIAAs with the original Hella's. I could do neither. First, the headlight adjustment screw seems frozen. No phillips screwdriver fits well. It might be stripped. So, I decide to remove the whole headlight bucket and attack from there. No luck. I remove the single lower headlight bucket screw, but the bucket does not BUDGE. Not even a little bit. What am I missing? I feel like a complete idiot.

Any chance the paint wasn't cured when the headlight bucket was replaced, leading to the thing bonding in there?

The H4's are not sealed beam and can be upgraded with various bulbs. Also, the Hella H4s provide dramatically improved road lighting over the sealed beam counterparts. ( My H4's are not euro. They do not alter the headlight trim ring.)

Moses..I use Euro lens..if you have three glass tits on the outside of lens thev are D.O.T., which I do not use/like/they suck...I also use Narva [German] bulbs, which are excellent..PIAA are not good for my use, but will probably be good enough for lighted street low speed driving....
check out http://lighting.mbz.org and spend a few minutes looking at the lens and bulb info....................Ron

Not only do you have to remove the single small phillips head screw at the bottom of the lens.... look closely, and you'll see an outer flathead screw that the small one screws into that you need to remove also (it's kind of a screw within a screw arrangement). After that, you should be able to pop your lights out.

Moses,
I think there is a bit of confusion about what headlamp assemblies you had ... and what you replaced them with??? The topic you posted is not relevant to the bigger, confusing issue you raised about headlamp assemblies! Hella makes 7" sealed-beam replacement units ... but you don't just install those alone, and they certainly can't replace anything in a Bosch H1 headlamp assembly! Hella also made the two earliest styles of 911 headlamp assembly ... the VW Bug/356 style with clear, oval glass lenses. The Euro version wasn't sealed beam, and the USA-version was.

I sense that U.S. sealed beam headlights=H1s in the first post, based on that I wonder whether the other ones are H4s(?). Maybe if you could post a picture of your lights?

The new lights are Hella H4's. H4 is clearly stamped in the center of the lens. ( 7 inch-round). They replaced what was the original sealed beam units. I do not know what was involved in the switch, as the body man at the paint shop did it.

Thanks, Noah.
It seems like a single-screw assembly. I torqued on it quite a bit, but I guess I'll give it another go tonight.
