Engine number and build date ?

Gentlemen,
I have a 1971 911 T couple with VIN 9111100882
Is anyone able to shed any light on the approximate build date?

Also, the car once had a an earlier engine number of 6389085,
Is the second number, the 3, indicate a 2.0S ?

Thanks in advance.

To get an idea of the approximate build date, look at the date stamp on the back of the instruments, and if original the rim date stamp. It is normal for the date stamps on these to be a month or 2 before the production date. The date stamps on the speedometer, tach, etc, in my car are May 1973, my rims are dated 6/73, and the compliance decal for the build date in my door jam was 7/73.

Just wait for Dave Pateman to come along and he will give you a good idea of when it was built. No need to start taking the car apart.

Page 39 original Porsche
911
1 = 1971
1 = row 2.2 T
0 = coupe
Numbers only go to 0583 in his book
Your engine is a 1978 case number 930/03 and Wayne's book indicates it to be a sportomatic 6389

Thanks for the help.
So engine number 6389085 means, 6 cylinder, 3.0 litre SC engine of 1978 manufacture which a 930/03 case and the last 4 digits are just the sequential serial numbers.
is that correct?

1968 numbers

According to the document i read:
1968 engine numbers started with 2, 3 or 4 they did not start with 6
1969 started with 619, 629 or 639
1970 were 610, 620 or 630
1971 611, 621, 631
the only reference i can find for the 638 number is a 1978, if you check the case number to verify it is s 930/ xx case.
Check wayne's engine building book or Peter Morgan's Original Porsche 911 to verify as I am in now way an expert and I could be wrong.

Yes. Did you find the type number? It is on the case below the serial number.

Sorry I'm a little late.
The car was built in Dec 1970
The engine is a 1978
Is it left or right hand drive?

The engine is a type 930/13, the Sportomatic version of the 930/03 in 1978 for ROW.
