When not to use the brakes :)

I did some "spirited" driving on the twisties, yesterday. On one tight "s" curve I puckered and hit the brakes instead of the throttle and did some damage to my front valance. Could have been a lot worse but a soft burm on the edge of a 30 foot drop off, slowed me down and the damage was minimal.

I've checked the archives and there are lots of examples of valances but I couldn't find anything on the remove/reinstall process. Do I need to remove the front bumper or are their any other problems I should be aware of. (I am going to look for a stock valance to replace the damaged one - and a new chin spoiler as I wiped out my chin spoiler, also) tia.........

Sorry about the incident you had there....

Front valance is separate from the bumper, so no need to yank the bumper. The valance is mostly held onto the front of the tub/body by some screws that are inside the trunk. The other locations it's fastened are underneath the bumper bellows and just where the valance "curves" from the side of the car to the front. Not a tough job at all.

Good luck.

That sucks! One of the most difficult parts of drving is to go against your natural instincts. At least the project is simple and straight forward.

I have a valance and rubber spoiler that I took off my 78SC when I did the RUF conversion. I was going to keep the parts I took off, but who am I kidding.

Both the valance and spoiler are in great shape. The valance waspainted 3 years ago and the spoiler is a little less than 3 years old, with one small scuff courtesy of a driveway entrance. The valance is painted black, has the SC provisions for driving lights and is textured like it came from the factory. I am in So Cal and can take a pic tonight if you are interested.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. I sent you an email but guess it didn't get through. I am interested in the valance and spoiler. Could you email me with a price, if your still interested in selling it. I live in the Bay Area so shipping shouldn't be too bad (althought that will be a big box) I found a new, replica valance but it's stamped steel instead of the aluminum that the factory valance is made of. They want $135. plus tax for the valance, it's from Parts Heaven a big Porsche-Only used and new Porsche parts place here in the Bay Area. If the prices are close I would rather purchase yours. Thanks in advance........

I had my 27 year old son with me and we just went out for a short spin. We were on Pinehurst Rd. in Oakland, when I did a partial spin.

A great place to ride is: take Mines Rd. from Livermore, to just past the Junction Cafe and turn left on Del Puerto Canyon Rd. It's 30 miles of twisties and NO traffic. about 10 miles into the ride you come to a park in the middle of nowhere, almost like an oasis. The Canyon ends at Highway 5. My wife and I did the ride about two weeks ago and we saw 1 car in the 30 miles.

glad nothing worse happened.
i was playing around last week, there is a nice twistie downhill down my street with a right...... tighter right......quick left to a nice strait section. well into the second right i went in a little too hot but had the correct line and lifted a little more than i should've to get the car to rotate, after i caught it by applying throttle and countersteer i got a nice big grin on my face realizing i did it naturally and didn't use the brake.
i took ron down the hill when he was here, no room for error........luckily you had the berm

bill, been out del puerto rd and it is the IMO the best section of road to drive in the area. its got your tight turns and big sweepers that are fast and as you mention the lack of other cars makes it what it is. i will go out to 5 on tesla rd. east and drive it back to mines and livermore some times, its like a whole new drive! maybe i will see you out there some day.
