3.2 mfi

Guys, I am building a 3.2 engine with MFI. I am using 3.2 heads so injector blocks were required. That puts my stacks about .5 inch higher than where it should be in relation to the pump. Consequently, the linkage geometry is effected. It is shortening the stroke to the pump. Does anyone have a solution for this. Would greatly appreciate some wisdom here. Thanks, Bob Lane

Looks like you are too far along at this point, but I just drilled and tapped the heads in the normal location for the injectors when I built my 3.0 liter MFI motor. Much cleaner than adding those blocks. The scallop for the CIS injector had to be welded over as well, so it is a bit of work.

The other issue you will run into in air cleaner clearance on the right side. Adding that much height will limit your selection. Most filters will foul on the grille.

Jeff, thanks for your response. These are 3.2 heads, less material than 3.0. I suppose it could be done, but a big slug of aluminum would be sticking out into the intake. I have a 2.7 version of this, with MFI heads and there seemed to be adequate clearance for these blocks by doing a little measurement on that car. But if you have seen this as a problem, you are further down the road than I am with this setup. Thanks again. Bob

Basic geometry.
If teh length of stroke on the pump is less than normal, try moving the pivot point inwards on the pump lever.
If you hold the pump in the open spot...and let the disconnected rod dangle and then meet the level coming out of the pump...you will see the aprox amount you need to move the point inwards.
We do this all the time on throttle linkages.
Think about it....you need to get more movement on the pump from the same rod that pushed it before.

Bob, I attempted to apply directly to you, but don't think that it went through. I am not sure that I fully understand you procedure. Moving the pivot point inward, do mean shorten the pump lever. I could see how that would increase the arc of the pump lever, but I think it would then shorten the butterfly travel. I am missing something here. sorry to be a pest, but could you clarify that for me please. Thanks, Bob

I would flycut the adapters on the bottom side and move the MFI injector hole closer to the head. Then I would open the clearance at the outside edge of the intake tract to clear the injector. You can do this while on the stand. Just make sure the intake valve is closed when clearance the heads and thoroughly clean/vacuum out the chips and metal dust.
