Rust at front bumper supports 82 SC
Here's my first post on my newly acquired 1982 911 SC coupe. I did see this prior to purchase, honest. What we're looking at is the same rust damage on both sides, with perforation to the inner fenders near the car's nose, which was apparently caused by sand/road grime building up on the ledge created between the reinforced mounts for the front bumper shocks and the inner fender sheet metal. Fixing it properly will not be the work of an afternoon.
Anyone else fixed this? Any words of wisdom? Thanks in advance and for all the information I've been hoovering over the last few years from this rather remarkable community. John in CT PS the first photo is the left, the second the right side. ![]() ![]() |

Are you going to do it yourself or body shop do the work? The latter will not be inexpensive. I'm sure someone here will have done it as a DIY project.

I have done this repair. The body work forum will be your friend.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/paint-bodywork-discussion-forum/498431-front-bumper-shock-support-rust-repair.html I would drive the car until you have sourced all your parts and have a little experience with welding if you are doing it yourself. Can't even imagine what it would cost to have a shop do it. Take pictures of everything and put labels on everything. I labeled all the electrical using masking tape and a black marker.

Sailchief, thanks very much indeed! After some time to reflect today, I figured that this was a project to wait on until I'm good and ready. First order of business is to get the engine freshening done (bought car with motor our/apart, not sure if I already mentioned that), itself a rather serious proposition.
I've had a MiG welder for some years and should be able to handle this when the time comes. Your use of donor panels was smart. I need to look for something similar. Does your black SC have blue primer visible in the front trunk? It looks like it does, which is how mine is. I used to travel down to Dover DE in a previous job. Thanks again, John |

Found somewhat similar but not as bad on my 83. Temp patched it with bondo for now until time for paint and removing of the fenders.
Anyone do a similar repair without using donor pieces? |
