ducktail on C2

Anyone here ever put a ducktail on a c2?
I like the duck tail on a 911.

If so, what's involved? What does the tail do /w the aiflow to the engine, if any?

Also, does the early 911 chrome headlight rings fit on the C2?

Anyone has a pic of how the chrome headlight rings and ducktail would look on a C2?

I am thinking of going to a retro look.

The Duck should be a bolt on for a C2. Just know that nearly all new fglass parts need some trimming/adjusting to fit. I've never seen one on a C2, but I bet it would look great. I have read posts that the duck aids engine cooling at, but have no hard evidence to back it. My SC does drive better since the install.

I am located here in Dallas. Don't have a C2 yet, but looking to get one. I'd like to go retro on the C2.

When you said the ducktail should bolt on, you mean the "duck" part of the tail just bolt to the existing C2 deck lid? Or you meant a new complete tail (minus the spoiler). Pls elaborate further.

The only ones I am aware of replace the entire decklid. You can buy a new glass unit for $3-400 and have if painted, bolt it on and voila, instant duck. You are welcome to come out and look at mine any time.

Hi Anthony, I know the actual tail/lid will fit your C2, but I do not know about the hinges. If I were to put a C2 decklid on my SC I'd have to hack/change the hinges. Just a thought.

Sorry Anthony. I may have given bad info. The 964 lid with extendo wing does have a different hinge setup. You may have to do some fabrication.

Try posting the question on the 964 board....or get an SC!!!!! There's a very exclusive club, you know.

Yeah, kinda like the picture except without the big wheel, rubberband tire, and lowered til it scrapes the ground effect. That thing looks riced out. Not what I want. I like a more retro RS look.

Anyone know what kind of modification is needed for the hinges?

Also, anyone know where I can get the chrome headling trim ring?

It would be an interesting looking, definitely retro. Has anyone put a ducktail on a C2 with turbo rear end? I have a 72T with a C2 Turbo look and was thinking changing the turbo tea tray tail for the duck look. Anyone done this?

by the way, i know that grey car. it was the feature project car of EGO magazine which is one of the two japanese porsche rags. they basically ripped out the carpet, put carbon fiber door panels on it, lowered it on H&R springs, put new wheels on it, painted to match duct tape (i kid you not, it's what they used for the color), and did the duct tail.

so you were right, it is ricey. but at least it's tastefully done.

To mount a pre 89 decklid onto a 964 you have to modify the hinges or make intermetiate plates.

Oo Fibergals ducktails from the aftermarked you mostly have to manufacture a bracket for the hinge anyhow so just bolt it on to the 964 hinges.

If you want to spend some real money, I understand there is a guy/company in Florida who molds the fiberglass decklid, just the outer skin and then bonds it to the existing decklids metal frame.

I would assume you could simply provide a C2 lid for him to get the frame from and let him bond the ducktail skin to it. That way the hinges are correct.

I also believe this is how the original RS ducktails were built, a fiberglass skin bonded onto the metal frame of a regular decklid. But I'm not an expert by any means so maybe someone could help out on this.

I will have to dig deep for his info. Let me know if you want me to.

Now the original ducktails had a aluminium or steelframe inside, good copys also use a steelframe ( mostly cut from a orignial lid ).

But most copys out there are full fibre with just molded in aluminium or steel plates on the "critical" positions.
