Allow me to intoduce myself...
Hello Pelicanheads! I have been watching this and other boards for a few months now and you guys seem to be the most passionate, outgoing, welcoming, and active bunch of Porsche lovers on the net. I am truly amazed with your level of affection for this fine automobile.
Here is my story: My name is Texas Turbo and I am a mod-a-holic. I just thought I would get that off my chest before I began. This is my first official post as a 911 Turbo owner and I have big plans for my car so I thought I would let y'all in on my story. I have been obsessed with the 930 since the 80s when my uncle opened my eyes to the wonderful world of Porsches. My father is not a car guy, so I had to look elsewhere for automotive inspiration. My uncle on the other hand could not be a bigger enthusiast if he tired. (he has owned Ferrari's, Lambos, and Porsches for as long as I can remember) One evening in the late eighties he took me down to his garage and showed me his two newest purchases. I was expecting "another Ferrari 328" or something like that waiting for me to oogle over. When he opened the door I was totally blown away, sitting before me were TWO 930 slant nose Turbos. (one black cabrio and one Guards coupe) The story he tells me is that these were two of the first three slant noses in the country and Car & Driver had the other one for testing. (My uncle was a big talker so I still don't know whether or not to believe him but it makes for a good story so I never bothered to authenticate his claim.) I knew then and there that I was a 930 nut for life and had to have one someday. Fast forward the tape 15 years. I am now 28 years old, have done very well professionally, and have the means to upgrade my "toy car" to the car I always wanted, a 930. I purchased my first 930 in late August in Mississippi and drove it home to Texas on one Saturday evening. (10 hours) It is Guards Red, was almost completely stock, and had 29K miles upon delivery. As I mentioned early in the post, I am a self described mod-a-holic. I have to modify every car I own to make it better. I have a 5 series bimmer for a daily driver and it has a lowered suspension, 18" after market wheels, and a few performance mods. I just sold my last "toy car", and I have even lifted and beefed up my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have already been introduced to the local PCA chapter and hope to meet them shortly. My real love is attending DE's and really only push my cars on the track. I have an SCCA regional racing license and have been to a number of driving schools but only have time for weekend DE's. My goal with this car is to have a good track car but one that can still be comfortable enough on a weekend cruise through the Texas Hill Country. I have done most of the standard mods, upgraded intercooler, exhaust, increased boost, VDO boost gauge, and 17" Ruf wheels. The car now has 335.7 RWHP and 381.3 RWTQ. I am not sure where I want to go next. What do I need to do to get the car ready for DE's? I plan on upgrading the lines to SS lines (it has the Euro rotors front and rear). I also plan on installing a harness bar as well. What else do you guys recommend? I will get into the inside of the engine soon enough, I am really ready to start learning how to drive the car so I am hoping to spend some time on the track as soon as time allows. And, since I know everyone loves pics: (I'll get some clearer day shots soon, the HCRPCA has a big show coming up in a few weeks.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice car & welcome
![]() The best mod IMO is DE's. All the performance goddies in the world will do you no good, if you can't drive. I also find that driving fast on the track & at an auto-x course, gets the a-hole/speeder out of me. So that I keep a clean driving record ![]() |

Thanks, Dr. Matt. I totally agree. I rarely speed on the streets, and it is usually just on road trips on the open highway. I got most of my reckless driving out of my system in my early 20s.
I fully agree about the DE's. That is where I do all of my aggressive driving. I have way to much to lose to drive like an idiot on the street. As a side note, it is amazing that the more I learn about true performance driving, 3 racing schools and multiple driving events, the more I realize how much I still have to learn. Thanks again for the welcome. |

Hey, Tex!
You have a beautiful car! I do have one suggestion: Replace those DOT headlights with some H4s or H1s. Not only will they look great on the car, you'll actually be able to see the road ahead. I had a '78 Euro 930 for a few years so I know the thrill. Enjoy! -zuff |

Everyone: Thanks for the warm welcome!
zuffenhausen : I agree with you on the H1s. They really update the look of the car and are on my short list for sure. juan ruiz: JR, I am very interested in seeing some pics of your car and learn about how you built it up. Do you have a link to a thread or website that details the story of your car? Anyone have advice on a harness bar? Thanks, again for the warm welcome, I look forward to participating on this board. |

Sweet Ride, TT! With H-1's in the NLA category, $uper $pendy, I'm curious. Has anybody here tried the Xenarc HID lites, as advertised in this month's EXCELLENCE, p. 31?

Tex,
I would be happy tell anything you want to know. Which car? I have'nt posted any pictures, I did'nt want to scare the women and children. As for a web site, I'm much too lazy for that. I have several requests for pictures, will post soon.
