Quick 88 Carrera Fuse #3 question

Ok i'm replacing my fuse panel in my 1988 Carrera with an ATO fuse panel. One thing I cant figure out is fuse #3 (third from left) is for convertible top, headlight cleaner, and an additional cleaning fluid pump relay (as per my wiring diagram). I don't have a convertible or headlight cleaners and I'm assuming the additional fluid relay is for the headlight cleaner system. Here is my question: On my fuse panel I still have a wire (Red and White) coming off the #3 fuse. Does it power anything that I'm not seeing or is it just part of the harness that automatically installed at the factory if you have the options or not? Can I just skip reinstalling the wire and use the fuse spot for something else?

Welding point X is for the convertible top.

I use the output of fuse #3 for the front A/C condenser blower motor.

Good luck,

Gerry

Give serious thought to re-wiring your front A/C condenser blower motor to fuse #3 as fuse #2 does get toasty warm.

It's a no-brainer.

Here are the pics:

Good luck,

Gerry

Hey Gerry thanks for the advice but my A/C is long gone. Im going to use the extra fuse block for power to one of the headlight relays.

Pay close attention to the bridged fuses,i did my ATO conversion last Winter and got stumped when it came to connecting those circuits. You will need to fabricate a few jumpers !

Thanks wildcat077, I'm on it! I have spent many hours going over schematics just to make sure I dont screw anything up. The only one I will not know until I remove the old fuse panel is the other fuse 3#, the fuel pump. My schematics say there is a jumper to it but it must be on the backside of the panel. I guess I will see when I take it apart.

Beautiful! Very clean. Is that one of Fred's panels? Did you screw it to the old fuse panel bracket or did you use double stick tape to hold it on?

Yup,one of Fred's panels ... it fit perfectly using the original mounting points.Take note of the jumpers ...
You will need to be creative and fabricate a few.Make sure you have plenty of female terminals where you can splice two and three wires together and shrink wrap everything afterwards !

hey 86 911 targa, nice job with the pictures of the back of the fuse panel at the ac condenser relay. I agree, why would someone not switch the condenser fan to unused #3? even if they have a headlight squirter the #3 fuse location distributes the ac load much better. Its actually very easy after you get past the fear of taking the fuse panel off the fender. as for me changing to fred cooks ato panel was the perfect time to do it.
