Up Grade Fuses to ATO

Without too much fanfare, these are two solutions I came up with; at a cost of $8.00. One then the other not pretty but very much functional.

Will the black plastic fuse block cover still fit with your fix? Also, where did you source the fuse holders shown in the top picture. I like your low cost approach to solving
the crappy old style fuse problem in a simple, yet functional manner. It may not look as
elegant and clean as some other much more expensive approaches, but it gets the job done. After all, with the fuse block cover in place, you won't know the difference.

Gotta give you credit for cleverness. Nice job!

Does the cover still fit?

Great idea. I've got a couple of bad fuse holder and this is a great solution for that!
Where did you source these? Part numbers? Will they support 25 amps?
Thanks,

Great idea! It is simple to do and it is easily reversible if originality is an issue. I assume the bronze blade stubs that held the original fuses in place were not removed?

ato fuses

Interesting solution! Have you thought about a replacement for the brass jumpers on the back side of the fuse blocks? They can cause major problems when they go bad.

I guess you could always double up with solid copper wire jumpers at the fuse holder side, under the screws. Those holes are pretty big size.

Yes, I know they're ugly but the cover fits nicely. If and when I sell my car (never) the next owner if he chooses to can revert back to original set up; since no parts were removed.

The wires used, were soldered in place (which increased the Ampacity, the holders were rated at 30 amps) and for added stability (not needed) I filled some with 5 min JB Weld.

Here's an even better deal, 20pcs w/no fuses (who needs 10ea 20amp fuses) for $3.69+$2.00 shipping. Will probably be the cheapest thing I ever bought for my Pcar! By the way, they are rated at 32V 30amp.

Location is listed as Hong Kong. Is there any experience out there with shipments from Hong Kong?

I've ordered some things from Chinese vendors on eBay. My experience has been that if the seller is reputable (lots of positive reviews), the item shows up in less than two weeks. YMMV.

The same set screw that is used to hold the wires holds this.. If you can, enlarge the pictures to get a better sense of attachment.

so nothing is actually holding the fuse holder in place, just the wires in the set screws?

Look at his picture. He is using solid conductor wire, like the wire used in home AC wiring.
It is very rigid as compared to stranded wire (like auto wiring) and should hold the fuse blocks in place pretty solidly.

This is correct, I am using solid copper wire soldered to the connectors. This makes for a very rigid installation. To further solidify the fuse holder, I used some JB Weld (before I snapped the holder close) to make it even more stiff. Which later I found out (because I ran out) was overkill. If you wanted, you could glue the holder to the block..

I ordered these on the night of the 9th and got them in the mail today. I got 50 pieces instead of the 20 advertised.

Any idea what gage that solid wire is? I'm thinking 14 gage.

Thanks!
