Oil Valve for Changes
I just read about Fumoto Oil Valves that can be used in place of your normal oil drain plug. Changing the oil on my SC is a bit of a pain, and always somewhat messy. This sounds like it would make the whole thing much easier.
Obviously we'd need two valves. What do you guys think?

I like it for the oil tank. When that baby is first unplugged it's scary with respect to volume.
Not sure of the hang down on the engine sump plate.

Reinstall the factory sump plug with antisieze. The Fumoto valve is too long for the sump. Install one in the oil tank. Good mod.

Oil Valve for Changes
I've been using 2 on my 911 for years. They work great and make oil changes easy. I got a slim oil pan container that fits just fine under the car without raising it and it holds 16L so it's perfect.
Oil changes have never been this easy ![]() Btw, the hang down is fine on the sump plate because when fully tightened the nozzle orientation is not sticking out underneath. It's out of the way. Just make sure upon initial install, you use new washers. The valves are kinda Ronco, aka set it and forget it ![]() Last edited by Koizumi; 10-17-2017 at 08:13 PM.. |

I've had the non-hose tip version on my oil tank for 20+ years... Its awesome. Car is too low to put a valve on the sump tank.

There are several models available. Are they all the same size or what size is needed for the oil tank and sump?

Interested.. for my 81 SC
Does our host sell these? All I see is this (which does not have a hose adapter).. It is not listed as a Fumoto.. 1981 Porsche 911 SC Coupe - Oil Circulation - Page 1 I also looked up on the Fumoto website and it provides 2 items for my model. Search Results | Fumoto® Engine Oil Drain Valves Size is listed as a M22 x 1.5 - Is this correct for the tank? Also no hose adapter listed for either - is that sold separate? or am I looking at the wrong part number?

According to the website posted, there's only one valve available for your MY 911. I guess the valve with the hose adapter isn't available in a size for 911s. Shouldn't that make shopping easier? And I wouldn't install that valve in the crankcase. Oil tank, however, is fine.

Just a follow up- I believe the Fumoto with the nipple is part #FG7BNS Find Fumoto® Products | Fumoto® Engine Oil Drain Valves FG7BNS | Fumoto® Engine Oil Drain Valves M22 - 1.5 pitch - for the SC tank. I have a 81 SC (3 ltr) and Ive read that the nipple hangs down too low.. still pondering - maybe I can remove the nipple after draining..

Fumoto has recently added new models which should fit a lot of Porsche models, including Cayenne.
There are lower profile models, short nipple models (for attaching a drain hose) etc. and adapters that plug into the end of the valve to attach a drain hose to, including straight and right angle adapters. The hoses, adapters, etc. are amazingly inexpensive, like a dollar or two and the valves now come with a clip that secures the valve lever. I have a 1994 Mazda MX-6 LS that I bought new and installed a Fumoto drain valve on when it was new and have used it to easily change the oil since 1994. SAME valve...never any problems and always works. And that’s after 24 years and a lot of oil changes. I just stick a hose on and drain it into a gallon container (empty washer fluid container, plastic juice bottle,etc.). Get one for your Porsche and you will no longer need to take out drain plugs or replace the washers-VERY highly recommended if you change your oil yourself. They only cost about $25...best $25 I ever spent for car stuff. |

For the reason Al suggested, I think it makes sense for the tank, but for the sump, I don't know.... It seems awfully exposed, at least on my car. If you hit something and it rips that valve off, it's gonna be bad. I'm not sure I like how much the plug hangs down!

I installed a ball valve on the tank on my 80SC many many years ago and have had a smile on my face every time I've done an oil change ever since.

Unscrewing the drain plug on the oil tank doesn't worry me. 30 second job. The bit I don't like is changing the filter. My car doesn't have a sump drain plug so that makes that part easy .

I have Fumotos on my truck, wife's car, my bike, and my Porsche. Wouldn't be without them.

The one that I have on the oil tank of my 72 is great. It's a strange angle with the wrench getting the plug out, and invariably makes a mess.

I'm using the aeroquip version on my 911 & 996. very low profile so the ground clearance is not a problem for the tank.
