Tach not firing up right away?

Sometimes my tach doesn't work off the hop! If I razz the motor a bit it comes to life and stays on line. Once its working it does so flawlessly. I did search for this problem(Pre-emptive defence here) but found a ****ton of stuff about non-working tachs. Mine works, its just late for work by a a few seconds! Advice please.

Mine does that when my battery starts to weaken, then I charge the battery and the symptoms go away. Might just be coincidental.

On my 73S it appears that the glass has warped because after sitting for more that one week, upon starting, the tack will not move. If I tap on the glass the needle will move freely.

Mine do that when the outside temperature is over 90 degrees.
But once I drive my car for 5 minutes it comes back to life.
My car stays in the garage and this never happens until it's park outside for more then two hours.

Gentlemen, have you all check the ground behind the tach to insure they clean and tight? This is just not normal. my 2 cents. I know it is a PITA to remove the tach but I would check the contacts especially the ground.

Yep, easy peasy, I have the quick release steering wheel, the tach pops right out in seconds, connection does not seem to be the issue for me.

i had this .. and i had a wild swing also .. like there was no damping action .

i bought a tach core and swapped them out while i got mine rebuilt. all worked great so i never got mine rebuilt. I think you will find your problem is the tach.
