Stereo Upgrade Options?
Just wondered what people had done in terms of upgrading their stereo option to fit in the classic 911 dash? Has any managed to squeeze in something more modern with bluetooth, sat nav, USB, SD etc. It would be nice to see what people have managed to achieve.

I am also interested to hear if anyone has found a stereo that fits with all the amenities.
I have been contemplating the Smart Nav 5 rear view mirror with the GPS, radar det. blue tooth etc. http://app-tronics.com/smartnavplus.htmlThen The unit has everything but stereo. |

I suggest sticking with 1DIN units that have no pop-out screens. So no nav. Bluetooth and iPhone/iPod connectivity should be available with most units.
I have an older CDA-105 from Alpine and still use a headset for the rare occasions I need to take a call while driving the 911. iPhone works as music source with a cable. |

I recently purchased a Sony 5700, 54 watt tuner with all the modern conveniences except GPS. CD/Pandora/Bluetooth/AUX/IPOD etc. Sound is great. A little too complicated to fiddle with when driving, but I just got it. $120 Amazon.
The real kicker was the Kenwood Super Slim Self Enclosed 8" Subwoofer. We put that under the passenger seat by velcro-ing it to the floor; no screws or holes. It has it's own control, hooks directly into the tuner(wires under the carpet) and sounds unbelievable. $157, Amazon. With my 4 MB speakers, front and rear, this stereo sounds as good as the Bose in my 09 TT. This is in my 78SC. The tuner went right into the radio slot no sweat. I love it.

Look into Secret Audio. Ipod hook up, stero, CD player all mounted in the trunk. Great sounds works well and keep your stock radio look

Blaupunkt Toronto BT 420 was the way I went. Blends to the dash, Bluetooth, remote microphone for cellular, SD card, removable faceplate and CD. Has amp outputs if you want to go that way, plus USB in front and cord out the back. $160 plus about $10 for remote microphone at Crutchfield.

I went with the Blaupunkt Cupertino. I researched a lot of the single-din GPS units, but they all had a fixed screen that would cover up the knobs on the dash above the radio (besides looking hideous).
I initially installed an Oxygen O-Car which was awesome because my iPod 4 was essentially my radio. It came with a radio app, obviously had GPS and even played movies, which the kids thought was cool. But, then my iPod broke and the O-Car wouldn't work with an iPhone 5. If the Oxygen released an iPhone 5 compatible version, I would go back to it. The Cupertino at least has a very easy to use USB port for the iPhone, works well, and maintains the Blaupunkt tradition.

vs an upgrade, I am keen to downgrade to the old original Blaupunkt basic radio. Don't need a tape or CD, just the news or some talkback. The exhaust is my music.
If anyone is selling their old Blaupunkt, I'd be interested. Or else give me a link please to the old Blaupunkts on the web. cheers from NZ |

I have an Alpine CDE-177BT head unit with Bluetooth for phone calls and Spotify streaming. As for GPS, oth a Garmin Nuvi and my Samsung S4 fits in the ash tray Space when opened, and actually gets satellite reception when needed!

I had been tempted by an Android powered unit given its adaptability and free abs etc. But they only seem to come with a 7 inch screen that flips out and folds up which would snag on the dash.

I have an Alpine that has blue tooth, satellite, usb slot, and input for a MP3.
My only complaint with the Alpine is that it is extremely bright and lights up the cabin at night. I'm tempted to cover all the buttons with window tint film. |

I put a pioneer dehx9600bhs which has Bluetooth that works astoundingly well I can take calls over it and it sounds great. I coupled this with a kenwood underseat subwoofer

I also installed a pioneer dehx9600bhs with Bluetooth that works great. Bluetooth calls work well and it's fairly easy to get used to but a bit quirky at first. I also installed Sirius module which also works well. I can't see why you would need double din other than for navigation but I use Garmin 5" nuvi. I was considering hacking up my dash but I couldn't do it and glad I didn't. For $185 including shipping how can you go wrong?

I removed the cheesy 80's era radio/cassette from my restoration 73.5 and now have a blank panel matching the dash for a clean look. I have Kenwood amps mounted in the frunk and my iPhone 6 will now serve as the entertainment/nav hooked up via 1/8 plug and mounted to a clip under the dash. Looks pretty cool and clean in an old 70's car.

Hi,
This may be a dumb question, but how well does the sub work in the frunk? Thanks, Dave Quote:
