Not sure I understand the question but those are plastic cups that clips go into for most german cars anyway. Door panel clips go into those, I'm guessing dash top clips too (but the only dash I pulled was a long time ago).. I imagine they make for a tighter and quieter fit (like an anchor with a screw in it)

Here you go.
Receivers for the clips attached to the bottom of the dash.
My '78 takes 7 of them,

Did you try pulling up after you got all the nuts off of the studs sticking through the dash into the trunk department? Those are pretty hard to get to.

dash

I removed the heater system and the windsheild wipers and the gauges. I double checked and have all of the fasteners off of the dash, the only 2 things that seem to be holding it are whatever are inside these plastic things that are at the corners of the dash. i do not know if they pull straight up or is there a clip that needs depressed..
a picture of what is inside these would be great.

There are approx 6 of these across the top of the dash. One one each end as you stated and one on each side of the rectangular spaces where the defrost vents snap into the dash. You don't have to cut anything, just lift up with moderate pressure at each point described and it will just pop up. Make sure you have all the nuts off first before pulling it up. I just took my Dash out last week with no problem. Mine is a 79 but they should be very close to the same. I can send pics tomorrow if needed. Good luck just take your time.

thanks

mine had bolts with nuts on those areas... the only plastic tabs i found are on the corners...the car was painted in the past so perhaps they used bolts with nuts in some fashion.. i will post pictures when i finally get a moment to remove it.
