What oil cooler? The one sort of highlighted is just the bottom of the factory engine oil cooler. The Euro 3.2 Carrera's oil cooler was on the left side, where the pump was.

This looks for all the world like an ordinary 1978-1987 (or just before the switch to the G50 began) aluminum cased 915 transmission.

Look at the serial number and (I think) model number stamped on the boss on the bottom of the transmission highlighted. That will tell you what you need to know.

The only thing in the picture I can't identify is that thing which looks like a large dried carrot.

Well, maybe the carrot is a funny kind of heater duct connector. That's about the right place for one.

Yeah, I don't see the traditional Euro-type cooler either. Also, I see a 1979 or earlier drain plug, which kinda says that the trans is a type 915/61 in a '77.5 (911S) to '79 (SC). The confusing thing is the two insulated lines, one under the trans, the other parallel to the forward trans mount, that are interesting/unusual. Like Walt said, see if you can make out a model #/serial # on the boss at the bottom of the diff housing. And take a picture of the other side of the trans!

Was looking at this yesterday on the phone. Didn't look closely enough. As others have said no euro cooler present.
