Urge to kill rising... Weather stripping on pop outs

I'm trying to convert my SC to pop out windows. I took the weather stripping off to paint the frames and am now having a hell of a time getting them back on. I've spent close to 3 hours on one and I still have not made any progress.

So, besides warm soapy water, strong hands, rubber mallets, paint can opener and a rounded off screw driver, are there any other methods?

Anyone in NJ want to make a few bucks?

Please someone save me from this hell!

Is there a lip you can put string or insulated wire into?

This can be an easy job. Just fill your bathtub with hot water, stretch the molding around the quarter windows and then let them sit in the tub for about an hour.

With a dulled screwdriver, they pop right on. I fought with my mine for 2 hours before doing this, 30 minutes after coming out of the tub and they were ready to go.

I am not sure if this will work if you have a wife.

I got a big slop sink. I only soaked then for a few minutes. I'll try again.

Well that didn't work. Trying again with some slimy soap.

It seems every time I think I have it I look and the previous spots came out.

Although I have never done a set of quarter windows I have had luck in the past with similar situations by boiling some water in a large turkey fryer. Turn off the heat and then put the rubbers in the water to soak for a bit. They will get nice and soft and should go on easily and stay on as they cool.

I have admitted defeat after waking up to a pair of sore hands. They are now at the glass shop with a dude who's done them before. He wasn't happy to see mine!

OEM seals.

Glass place did it in an hour. $60 for both. I should have done that sooner. I believe they used silicone.

Never heard of pop out windows Scott. Sounds interesting. Photos? If you are dealing with windshield, and for reference to others since you're getting it done... it's very easy to put molding in when windshield is out of car because you can sort of peel back rubber to open receiver slit. It's also much easier to shape molding to glass because pressure can easily be applied from both sides---very difficult to do when glass is installed. Putting glass back takes a few minutes with string pull so easier to remove glass and put back.

I've had cooperative ones and uncooperative ones. I've accumulated about 8-9 pop out quarter windows just to harvest the seals. OE seals that are 5-10 years old are pretty easy to install. The vertical section at the front is always a battle.

Next battle usually is getting the 4 little holding screws into the back of the b-pillar. Use a tapered punch to align and practice your breathing/mediation techniques.

These are the rear quarter windows. They are fixed on the sc and carrera cars but pop out or vent (like mini van rear windows) in the older cars.

I've actually had these in and out of the car several times for tapping and drilling, fitment questions and to touch up some paint. Not too worried about this portion.

Wish I had seen this earlier. I converted my SC to pop outs a couple years ago. Despite all the pain, it is definitely worth it.

I literally wanted to throw my pop outs off my porch when doing the seals. I would get it wrapped all the way around then trying to get the flat portion fitted, the seal would completely pop out.

Eventually, I found this thread.
Rear Quarter Window Weatherstrip - I Have the Fix!!!

I used no soap, no silicone, just the paint can opener trick and had both installed in minutes.
