Hot Damn! It's finally done.

Well sort of. These things are never truly done I suppose, but it's finally on the road and drivable. Coming home from the shop with a borrowed dealer tag it was a blast.
Since I wasn't trying to fool anyone and have no plans to resell the car, I did it the way I wanted it i.e., black trim, IROC front spoiler, and 15x8&9 wheels. I also spent a lot of time reducing weight so the car has no sound deadening, an RS interior with shell bucket seats, lexan windows, a wheelchair battery, and numerous GRP body panels.
I originally bought the car as a complete basket case (similar to Lar's (Speedo) car) in August 2005. The repair and fitting new body panels took me a year to complete. Since then I've spent two years on active duty with the Navy including a year in Iraq so the going has been a little slow. It probably wasn’t the car that most people would have chosen as a starting point for a project, but it had enough valuable parts such as the steering wheel, engine grill, and stock wheels that I essentially got the basic car for free. Free is hard to beat.
It’s been really cool to watch other people’s projects on the BB as they provided a lot of the inspiration for the project such as Rob Dickenson’s 15x 8 and 9 in fuchs on a narrowbody, and Jack Olsen’s very light weight and well thought through suspension with a relatively conservative engine. Special thanks to Rodger and his guys at Mitchell Motors in Littleton, Co who did the suspension and engine tuning work, and Brian and the crew at MAACO auto body in Littleton who did the bare metal, windows out re-spray (They are a somewhat unique MAACO franchise in that they can/will also do very high quality work).

Looks great!

You should post more pics....interior, engine, etc.
And tell more about what you did to the car.

Outstanding, Carl. I agree...details/pics please. Particularly what weight you're down to and about those plastic windows with dzus fasteners.

It's looking good!

I'm curious what size tires you're running on the 8 & 9 x 15 Fuchs?

The car looks great. The IROC spoiler gives the front end a forceful look.

To my eyes, the car sits a little high. What are the distances from ground to fender edges?

All:
Thanks so much for all of the interest. I'd love to get some more pictures up, but unfortunately I'm out in Arizona for some training on my way to Afghanistan sometime after the first of the year. These pictures were taken with my cell phone camera as I had forgotten to bring my digital home. It will be several weeks before I can get home and take some more.
1) I really don't know much about the engine. I t was in the car when I bought it, and it seems to run really well. The PO said that it came from a buddy's race car. It has weber carbs and headers. It doesn’t seem to have a big cam. So it isn’t the engine that I bought from Bill a couple of years back. That one is gainfully employed in my other 911, although the thought has occurred to me that the red car might be a good home at some point.
2) I haven’t had the opportunity to weigh it yet. Although, based on Jim Calzia’s weights, it should be right near 2000lb
3) I’m afraid that I haven’t solved the affordable/available tires for 15x9 wheels problem. The tires are 205-50-15 and 225-50-15. Scott, I really like the look of the 15x8&9s on your RSR lookalike. What tires are you using?
4) I think that we set the ride height for stock euro 25.5 and 25. That said, I have a major scraping issue coming down out of my driveway with the front valence as it is. There is less than 6 in of clearance under the front spoiler.
I should probably also mention Ead Hopkinson and Tom Butler’s cars as inspiration for the project too. I love the RSRs. Given that I wasn’t going to have a big motor (at least right away) I decided to go with the narrow body/wider wheels and the IROC front spoiler
Thanks,
Carl
