The definitive response:

Front: Spread both hands wide, on either side of the crest, close to the lip of the hood where underside support is best, and gently but firmly push down.

Rear, right-handed owner: With the left hand holding the hood at level, place the right hand on the grille, and then let go with the left hand while pushing down with the right hand.

Well, according to this video (7.30) , the crest was designed to be used ... for the 993 at least.

Whoa, kinda of an old thread, no? :D

One can adjust it so you do not have to push so hard to close. As long as it clicks on the final latch. it will stay nice and locked.

Why not just move the latch with your fingertip, like you do when you open it? Then it takes zero effort to latch closed, no bendin', no pushin', no distortin', no nothin'.

i push at the front edge where the hood is stronger, dont want to put a dent in it.

Fingertips to left and right of the crest is how I do it. I think that's the recommended way. Light pressing on the crest is probably fine, but too much and you'll get a dented hood.

Press down directly over the latch.
Pressing on the crest makes no sense whatsoever.
