Hood should close upon dropping or does it require

an additional push to close? I have to lower the hood then push down to lock it in place.
I am thinking you should be able to just drop the hood to close it.

Oh Haha 10-30-2014 05:36 PM

The extra push is normal. Most owners I know push on the Porsche crest to complete the closure.

KBOUSTANI 10-30-2014 05:37 PM

That's how I di mine ,push on the Porsche crest.

gazzerr 10-30-2014 05:43 PM

I need to push mine.

Jp-oh 10-30-2014 05:52 PM

I reach under the hood and move the latch over then lightly push the hood closed.

jmpowers 10-30-2014 05:54 PM

I push on mine but NEVER on the crest. Been told it will loosen the crest eventually...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/hiding.gif

Why would you drop your hood from a height? Do you do that with a Chevy?

Jfporco 10-30-2014 06:20 PM

Let the hood down with my hands, then gently close it at the edges.
No need to let it slam down.

This. In fact, since my gas support struts are working, I doubt I could just let it fall at all.

I have seen programs on TV where a guy says people make the mistake and push on the hood and this eventually distorts the hood where you press down. I may have my cars mixed up and it may have been a Ferrari.
Glad to know that I have been doing it as everyone else and this makes one less thing I need to do.

My strut needs to be replaced and now this is making sense that you shouldn't be able to let it drop.

The hood on my SC is distorted that way just above the crest. I'm sure it's from a PO closing the hood by pushing down with both hands in that area. I bet just one time was enough.

my hood shocks will pop the hood open so there is no way I would be able to drop it closed. I always push down on the crest to avoid finger prints.

pelon 10-30-2014 08:32 PM

Hood

The front I push to close, the rear lid will close if I drop it.

nettles503 10-30-2014 09:54 PM

I close my hood by pushing down lightly with one hand on either side of the crest, fingertips spread. That's how the dealer told me I should close it. FWIW.

porwolf 10-30-2014 10:29 PM

Porsche hoods need the be pushed down because they are held up by the hood struts. I always push down my hood with the back of my fingers and I place them very near the bottom of it. That's my SC. On my earlier Porsches I pushed down where near the front of the hood right where it curves down. Never had a dent in my hoods.

Takes an extra push, but NEVER on the hood crest. You will end up with a pushed in hood crest. I put both hands left and right of the crest and push down smartly.

theiceman 10-31-2014 05:00 AM

i NEVER push down on the hood crest . in my opinion thats too much force in one small location . just on the edges about 6 inches left and right of the crest is fine.

Wait till next month. This'll change! :)

Jose_JGC 10-31-2014 05:56 AM

Like everyone else here I too give my 911’s hood an additional push to close. I believe this is the only way to do it for cars with hood struts.
