Corroded 996 from the NE What to use?
Just bought a 996 TT from RI. The undercarriage looks like it has been sitting in salt brine for a few years. Everything is corroded from the suspension and discs on down. Has anyone found a treatment that works for this nasty crust.

A bunch of elbow grease along with brass brushes. For the nastiest stuff - clean and refinish or replace.

Wire brush and POR15. Follow instructions and it will protect for a long time and none of that crust will come back.

buy an angle grinder with a wire wheel, remove every bit of rust and apply por15.

Johnny Walker's probably right, although you may want to try the following:
1. wire wheel the worst of it off (use a good dust mask) 2. spray on phosphoric acid (available in gallon jugs at Home Depot) 3. after the acid has eaten away the rust, rinse it with denatured alcohol 4. give it 2 coats of MasterSeries silver primer 5. top off with Por 15 or some other finish coat. If it will be exposed to light, use something other than Por 15. Messy job, especially if you're working upside-down. Have fun.
