Ssi in 3.2 parts questions

1. Is this the second oil line i need? I have the front wheel well mounted oil cooler.
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 911-107-729-10-M127
yes.

2. What gaskets are used between the ssi secondaries and the muffler?
here it is: 901-111-193-00-M17

3. I want new exhaust studs, but p part studs listed say not for thick flange manifolds. What do folks use as i gather ssi's for the 3.2 are thick flange. I assume 46mm.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/436729-exhaust-stud-ssis-w-thick-flange.html
appears to be 999-062-237-02-M260 - 51mm
this appears to be the lock nut: 900-910-097-02-OEM

4. Heat backdate. I ordered the left and right ducts, but both are identical. Each had proper parts label however. Label/shipping error, or are they just similar? Update: 100% an error from pparts looking at the pictures.

Thaks folks, uless other have better parts alternatives, I think I found/was told all the info I need.

gliding_serpent 11-13-2014 03:23 PM

I will answer 1 above. Yes.

JJ 911SC 11-13-2014 03:26 PM

I will answer 4 below. Yes as in Label/shipping error.

It looks like one of them (engine or tank to thermostat)

2. What gaskets are used between the ssi secondaries and the muffler?

Same as a factory 2-bolt muffler inlet gasket.

3. I want new exhaust studs, but p part studs listed say not for thick flange manifolds. What do folks use as i gather ssi's for the 3.2 are thick flange.

Do you have the SSI HE's already? If so, measure the thick flange, then add to the length of the standard exh. stud. If not, the dimension is somewhere on the forum.

Driver side long section and square duct pass-through engine surrounds are similar but different. See photo below.

Searched, but did not find the above info. Thanks for any help.

Here are the early 911 backdate hot air pieces needed (marked with an X):
Your current Part #5 may be okay.

I ordered 18 also. I plan to cut the engine tin and overlay 17 and 18. Someone else did that here and it looked great.

thanks for the info.

On a 3.2, you should already have #18. #17 is a mirror image of 18 but only fits on the driver side. Some fabrication work (cut and weld) could join new 17 and existing 14 into one piece. Or do you mean punching a large 3.5" hole into existing 14 to provide a path for the hot air hose? That would work too.

No 17 or 18 came with my car (or any stock 3.2 as I understand). This is what I am talking about: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/736358-photos-3-2-heating-mods-ssis.html#post7301899

I bought used # 17 & 18, blast them off, paint them and cut # 14 & 15 to fit.

I'll post some pics, when I find them. I guess you already found them...

Trying to replace the exhaust studs would just be opening a can of worms... I wouldn't do it if I were you.

Given that i will be installing ssi's, it is my understanding that it is a necessisary evil. Unless we are talking about different things.

I did not have too but I did and end up breaking a few, and having to do a time-sert (my first tap ever)...

No regret but here is the link so you can decide for your self and a few others that maybe of some help.

Boy, those certainly are beautiful! I had a set on my old '75 Targa and loved them. They put out a ton of heat as well (I think they worked better than the setup on my '84 without all the blowers and relays).

It appears that the SSI heat exchangers you show have the thick flanges, so won't they fit on the original exhaust studs without changing anything?

Also, does the passenger side air elbow fit if the factory AC bracket is in place? I don't think it would as that space seems quite tight, but have no personal experience in trying the backdating.

gliding_serpent 11-15-2014 04:54 AM

My ac is removed, so i should be fine.

I am searching on the exhaust stud thing, but it appears you guys are all right... No need to replace unless one is broken. May get the special tool to remove the nuts.

gliding_serpent 11-15-2014 04:56 AM

Now i am reading on the elephant racing alternate oil line options... The over the transmission line sounds tempting for servicing. Plus, my car is low.

Use a torch to get the nuts red hot, then let them cool a bit and remove. That is the trick to removing the nuts without breaking studs.

Harbor Freight has a cheap set of long allen bits that works well.

Listen to this guy. Sometimes he knows what he is talking about. ;)

Yeah, I learned from the experience of breaking a stud on scooter's car :/
