Exclamation Help: SSI / Engine Tin Installation Problem

Start to put her back together.

I installed the tin around the engine (86 3.2) and went on to installed the SSI.

The one on the the driver (LH) side (pics showing engine upside down) definitely interferes with the SSI.

Anybody else encounter this (could not find it in any search result) and what is the solution, snip away?

Old HE

SSI

I'm bumping this since I have SSI's as well that i need to install.

Is there a difference between the later and earlier pieces of engine tin on that location?

I had a similar problem on a MFI car.

yes, the earlier cars don't have tin that sticks out like that. Its usually flush with the back of the motor.

This just happened to me with a pair of George's headers. The tin is important there due to the head temp sensor. I just rolled the tin up to accommodate the headers. Was fairly simple using a huge crescent wrench to grip and and form. Used a shop rag in between jaws and sheetmetal.

I guess an 84 tin is different..

Mine clears... and as mentioned you MIGHT need to pound one area on the SSI to clear the clutch spring..

Shawn

Did you roll in inward or outward? Pics if available.

Cheers

Porsche Crest

Shaun

Perfect. That is the way I pictured it.

On you 1st photo, does you oil line touch the engine (at 6 O'clock, around the transmission)?

Cheers

JJ

Glad to help. The oil line does not touch at 6 o'clock, but the it does touch the cylinder sheet metal a tiny bit. I was told not to worry about it. It is coming off to have the rubber hose finished. We cut it down to meet up with custom high clearance oil lines.
