Tools to remove Cylinder Head studs without damaging them?

I have been on these forms reading for days and im kinda getting confused here. Ive read on the snap on tool but are there anything else anyone has used that does not damage the cylinder head stud to remove on my 3.0sc so I can use them later since they are steel and in good shape? Thanks

You are removing a nut from a stud. Why would the stud become damaged?

I read your post again. You are ready to remove studs, correct? Your engine is on a stand?

Just double nut them and remove once the heads are off. No special tool needed other than two wrenches the same size to lock the nuts and then turn the stud to remove. You may want to apply some heat to break the loctite bond.

yes engine is on the stand, trying to remove the head studs off the case and reuse them. Thanks

Arvin,

So you want to remove the steel cylinder head studs on your engine and re-use them later for another engine or same engine? Are you installing a set of Dilavar head studs to replace the steel ones? Why are you pulling out the steel cylinder head studs in the first place if you don't mind me asking? Thanks.

+1. You will obviously have the cylinder off and the piston removed, just apply heat inside the case spigot near the stud.

I removed mine with an unthreaded collet type of socket. Yes it did flatten some of the threads a bit. Nothing major or re-installment problems came up. Mine were/are steel and I did not chase or thread file the threads at all. Just my experience. Mine were out of a 76 2.7 and did remove, what I would call, easily.
