help identify this part - linkage inside heater control
Replacing the carpets and noticed this linkage detached to that thingee. Its located inside the ebrake below the auto heater knob.

That actuating rod ABSOLUTELY must be connected for your heat to work properly.
It may be that your housing is not mounted properly.

+1 to CCM911
It also looks like the red lever is missing. It should be attached to the other side of the linkage part. It comes out of the rubber boot, 1 slot for the ebrake handled and 1 for the heater lever. You move(gently) the part with the ball end so it meets up with the rod. You may want to verify the workings of the heat flappers under the car. This unit is what controls them.

Yes it has auto heat. I asked this before coz my cousin's 87 had the 2 levers with red tip and mine had none.

turn the ignition on and the top knob to off and the servo, if it works, will move the rod forward. all the plugs need to be plugged in. some cars don't have a red knob because the servo controls everything.

Thanks guys! Will check JW approach tomorrow. The batt is disconnected while we are doing the carpets, wiring the rear fog lights and rear speakers.

There is a plastic snap cup with lock for each end of the rod. These break after years and need to be replaced.
It also doesn't hurt to clean out the guide tubes for the wires going to the flapper boxes so everything works smoothly when finished. Bruce |
