need help piecing together my CIS - 1981
I am currently refeshing the CIS on my 81. The parts pretty much came in a box. My big questions are concerning the connectors that go to the cold start valve and the plate sensor and what not. it seems that they can be easily cross connected.
also, is there a diagram that shows the proper vacum line routing? I have a 78 and a 76 motor as a reference, but the 81 has alot more "stuff" to connect it seems. any links are super helpful

CIS vacuum lines........

The '81 SC CIS has a different aluminum vacuum tubes (4) than the early CIS like the '77 or '78 CIS. They ('77 & '78) have three (3) tubes. I am not home right now and if you need some pictures of the back side of the engine where all these vacuum and fuel lines are located let us know. There is actually an '83 SC CIS unit sitting in my garage that you might like to see. I'll post the pictures after I get home tonight. Tony |

CIS connections
This might help. This system is off an 82.
The red arrow should be a black connector that fits the sensor plate. The yellow arrow is a larger connection that will only fit the throttle. The blue arrow is a blue connector that fits the cold start valve and the green arrow is a green connector that fits the frequency valve. Hope it helps ![]()

thanks for that snapshot! That looks a lot like what I had in a box about 2 weeks ago. Ill be out in the garage later on today and will add some pictures to try and give you guys an idea of what im fumbling with. After looking at the CIS Vacuum diagrams (911 CIS Primer - Vacuum Lines) it appears that I am missing #9 which is the vacuum control but I always thought that was a deceleration valve. I have one of these on my 78 but I don't see one in the picture you just posted. From the CIS primer link, it seems the Deceleration valve and the Vacuum control unit are the same. In 80, the design appears to have changed to the round puck style and is located over near the FD as opposed to the one that hangs off the Throttle body in 78. I might end up trying to call Bob if I have to punt ![]()

Decel valve.......

It looks exactly like an AAV (auxiliary air valve) but has a nipple connected to a vacuum. It was so cold last night when I got home and failed to take pictures. Steve has one already for you. ok...the black connector was plugged into where the green arrow above is pointing. This particular black connector is not part of the main wire harness and is on its own separate loom that has its own 12 pin connector similar to the one on the main engine harness. Plugging them in now and will take a snapshot.

Electrical plugs connections.......

In reference to Steve's attached picture showing the different colored arrows, follow this: Engine wire harness: Blue = CSV Red = AFS switch The WUR and AAR are with the above engine harness. A separate 12-pin connector from ECU: Green = FV Yellow = 15 degree TPS (throttle position switch) Note: Above color code refers to the arrows (pic) and not to the electrical plug's color. OK guys, too many incorrect wiring connection directions so far...
For the engine harness connectors: Blue -Cold start Valve -Has yellow and red black wires to it. Green - Air flow Switch - Has brown and Brown/Red wires to it Black - AAR - Has red/white and brown wire to it. Grey - WUR - Has red/white and brown wires to it. Peel back the boot and confirm the colors as someone may have made changes over the years. My information is based on the brand new, never used '81-'83 engine harness I have and use to create new ones from. The Lambda harness has other connectors that are different.

ok...I peeled back the hoods on the connectors and here is what I came up with.
the Black connector: Black/Red Stripe and Black/Red Stripe with a yellow mark Green connector: Brown and Brown/Red Stripe Blue connector: Limey Yellow and Limey/blue stripe and red/black stripe (3 wires) after reading thru this... I pulled the connectors to the AAR and WUR and they have the Red/white stripe and brown wires.

so...100% agreement on AAR and WUR and they are connected
from the above info, 100% on the Cold Start Valve that leaves the green and the black

and the green connector is now connected to the Air Flow Sensor
which leaves the black connector that is part of the separate harness. I have that connected to the Frequency Valve Sound about right?
