Front Condenser Fan Fuse
I'm sure this has been discussed at length here, but for some reason I can't seem to find anything. My 84 appears to not have a fuse for the front condenser fan. My plan is to install a basic inline fuse holder. What amp rating fuse should I use?
Thanks.

Scott,
For $20 or so you can get the factory harness that plugs in and looks, well... factory! By the time you mess around with making the harness and wiring it all up and such, the money was well spent. Took 2 minutes to plug inline... Mine had a 15 amp fuse in it when I bought it... Joe

Joe: Is there a harness with the fuse holder in it, or are you suggesting that I buy a harness and then add a fuse holder? Do you have a part number?
Thanks for the info.

Wrong....
The front condenser fan harness( that can be purchased from Porsche and is used to update older cars) uses an American-style ATO fuse rated at 7.5 amps. Perhaps someone meant the post '88 update to the evaporator relay in the smuggler's box in the trunk..that one is 16A, with an external fuse, to replace the old style 16A fuse with internal diode. ---Wil Ferch ![]() |

I cut in a $2.00 inline pigtail with a 7 amp fuse. 2 butt connectors and a pigtail fuse. Works just as well as $20.00 factory mod.

So, now I'm completely confused. Is there a factory harness for my 84? If not, then I can simply use an inline fuse. I'd rather have it look factory, however. A little help, please?

Scott,
There is a factory harness that plugs into the fan, then into the power lead that goes to the fan. Looks factory because it is factory. Sure that Pelican has it but if not Zims in Dallas is where I got mine... before I knew Pelican was around. You can also splice a fuse assy into the power lead going to the condensor fan and it will do the same thing for lots cheaper. Depending on the skill and experience of the person doing the splicing it can look professional or shade tree... If something goes wrong and the front end burns up I can say and prove that there are factory parts that should protect the car from burning up. I have seen several 911's that burned from this motor siezing and its not pretty. Insurance is getting picky lately and not paying for some things and for me its just not worth it. Wil, you may be correct on the amp rating. I am not sure on the amps but thought it was a 15 amp. The factory harness it comes with the correct fuse... Joe

Guys:
Part number is 911.612.077.00 Correct....part comes with fuse installed from Porsche... 7.5A fuse. Also shown in Technical Bulletin book "E", number 8803, part identifier 8753, Group 8. ...August 12, 1988. While you're at it, replace the A/C relay in the smugglers boot from 911.615.103.00 to 911.615.103.01 ---Wil Ferch ![]() |

The condensor motor was not fused from the factory and presented a fire hazzard, hence tech bulletin #8803 group B January 1988, p/n 911.612.077.00.
I added the factory inline fuse update. Got it from DC Automotive for ~$12. If you can get it for a cheap price it's worth having the factory update. Otherwise a home brewed solution is better than risking a fire.

Hey Guys.
I do not want to sound stupid here, but I have a three wire connector plug that goes to my front condenser fan. I have a foactory 73.5 set up and do not see a fuse anywhere in-line. The motor died this summer.........just where do I splice in a fuse holder if I have three wires? I am no electrical genius................ Bob |
