Best ST replica ever

This is my project and like every parent you think your child is the best in every aspect. I bought a 1968 912 and turned it into the RS below at the age of 19. I have never worked on a ca in my life but wanted a RS. I did ok but now i know i made a mess.
Two years ago I saw how Ruf in Germany rebuild cars and it inspired me to rebuild mine again but to a very high standard. I also decided on a ST because there are to many rs replicas around and mine will be the only ST in South Africa at this point. I will also use as much as possible original pars and rare parts so that it will be very difficult to get another car that comes close
Here is the first pics of the 912 and the RS

An ST is the car that came between the RS/RSR and the earlier R. The car came out between 69 and 72 and the engines ranged from 2.2 to a 2.5 in 72. Because there are so many different versions and details on STs that its very difficult to say whats right and wrong but the general idea stayss the same. Its a high performance race/ rally car with various race options and no rear spoiler.

not my ST

The orange car pictured is not my ST just the target where i want to be the red car is the RS I build. I did swop the engines, the car used to run a 2.7 EFI but the new projecct will run a 2.4 T base motor with JE pistons that takes it to a 2.5, RSR cams, 40 webers instead of zeniths, twin spark marelli system and all the usual like lightened flywheel etc

A bit of a mix between the old and the new. A full carbon bonnet with balsa wood supports to give it that old look and some strength.

another pic of the bonnet

Carbon bootlid

Carbon door skins as a good and light replacement for rusted ones.

I found a pair of really nice 935 /3.0 rsr seats, they need to be recovered but still in good condition otherwise

The base engine a 2.4 T. The engine will still change alot but tis one is nearly brand new.

I build this engine stand so that i can move engines while i am alone.

I will not be using the RSR bumper but will use a S bumper. This is the first picture that start to look like something.

Gotta love the South African's modesty here .I'm allowed to say this because my brother in law is one. Good luck on the project, I'm sure it will turn out nicely.

The work on that shell looks awesome which leads me to ask... why a 2.4T block as a start to an otherwise good motor? Is it a 7R? I would think a 2.0 sand cast might make a better candidate (??)

Awesome project... keep up the good work.

Thanx Matt I wanted to make a sheep joke but will keep this to Porsches. Eric its a 7R casing but the idea behind the engine to keep it as close as possible to the original that came in a ST. Not alot will remain of the original engine. The weber has been added, twin spark ,RSR cams i already have new JE pistons to make the car a 2.5. The con rods will also be replaced. I also found the engine for a very good price. Why would you use a sand cast casing i dont know anything about this....

The early 911s (short wheelbase) had sand cast Aluminum cases. Porsche switched to Magnesium for weight savings but the Aluminum is stronger, which is why they went back to Aluminum for larger, more powerful motors. A 7R Magnesium case is second best to an Aluminum one. The later Aluminum cases have the wrong cylinder head stud spacing for the small displacement cylinders.

Will need different seats to make this the "best ST replica ever." Lollipop seats were not available until 935 era. Good luck with your project.
