i have a pair of those in my 71 911- i bought them years ago from a guy who had taken them out of an early long hood!!! wonderful seats and much more comfortable and supportive than the factory sport seats of the time!....in my opinion! i believe they would be period correct but not sure.

I found the following statement on a Recaro website......................

"DID YOU KNOW THAT...

... taxi driver Dieter Gützlaff from Kirchheim/Teck, Germany has been driving in a RECARO seat for over 40 years? His RECARO Idealsitz from 1967 has been his companion across over 2 million kilometres.

The 2nd document down from the top (sport auto) in your posting shows a date of 4/1972 in the lower right corner........................that may help narrow it down.

regards,
al

Note the date in the newspaper advertisement: April 1972. Looks like you are right in there date-wise.

Idealsitz S

Hello
I love them, I have three sets, all mounted in my cars. It is by far the most comfortable seats Recaro made at the time, and their most expensive. I believe they were an option in 71-73 911s only in Germany. They are very rare since they were never offered as an option anywhere else and you could only get them aftermarket. They are often overlooked because Porsche used the less expensive and heavier Sport seat for the "S" models and the iconic RS, and everybody relates that to being the ultimate Recaro, when in fact it wasn't. This title easily goes to the Idealsitz S, which has a wider deeper seat, incredible side boosters, and no arm obstruction. It also weights less than a Sport Seat (with the tilting slider) since it has the tilting option included as well as the slide-lock mechanism inside the seat.
You'll enjoy them for the rest of your life, but if you decide to sell them, I'm first in line to take them.
Cheers
MD

These seats are surprisingly not as expensive as the Sport seats, which is nice. You can find good used sets for about $2,000.00 and fully restored ones for $3,500.00. For the most part, they come in the market mostly in Germany, but some appear from time to time here in the states, from my three sets two I bought from Germany and one I found here in California.
