For our '86:

^^^^^
Driver's side-Driver's window.

^^^^^
Driver's side-Passenger window.

Good luck,

Gerry

I recently took the door cards off and replaced them with RS style from App Biz. I took some photos of the window switches. I hope this helps...

The first 3 are the driver's side.

The last one is the right side.

power to the windows?

hello peeps perfect timing on this thread.

i have cut out my COMPLETE wiring harness for a track car conversion on an 88. this includes all the wires which go to the door. un fortunately i did not realize i must still operate the windows.... bad brain fart.

so now i have a very short set of wires coming out near door ihinges. and also the switches themselves have been un touched

does anyone know which wires i can connect power to and , thus get the window to move agin with the existing switch?

even if i have to add power directly to the switch , that is ok.

please let me know if anyone has any ideas

thanks frank rauscher@wistar.org

I took the driver's door card off yesterday to fix a couple things. One of them was to replace the passenger window switch that would intermittently work. I noticed that the wiring on my '87 is just a tad different than the pinout provided by 86. On both switches the wiring to pins 1 and 2 is just the opposite. After replacing the passenger switch, it still doesn't operate the window (the switch in the passenger door does work). So I swapped the pin 1-2 wires on both drivers side switches to see what happened. Turns out that the passenger window switch still doesn't work, and the driver's side worked opposite (up caused the window to go down and vice versa).

So two questions:
1. I wonder why my switch wiring is opposite the pinout provided by 86 above.
2. Can one of the other switches be responsible for causing the driver side passenger window switch to not operate? I know they're all tied together.

Matt

Thanks, 86. I rewired all 3 switches correctly (2 on drivers side, 1 on passenger side). Operation is backwards for every switch, and the drivers door passenger switch still works intermittently, at best. I must have a short somewhere for the switch, but I can't explain the backwards operation of the other 2.

Window switches

If ever there was a place for a multiple plug connector, the 911 door switch is it! If you want to correct the raising, lowering action of the switches, you have to swap the middle two wire's position on the switch, or simply pull the switch out of the door panel, turn it 180 degrees, and reinstall! I spent quite a few hours trying to get mine to work properly, but it can be done!

If buying new switches, I was told not to buy the Uro brand ones as they don't seem to last too long.

For the switches that work but have inverted functions, just flip them 180 as per
jackstands. Don't transpose the wires.

As for the driver's door, pass switch, in some cases the door harness gets pinched.

Try the switch with the door open, and move the P/W harness in-out of the door and door jamb.

Okay, I tried the switch with door open and closed, and I moved the P/W harness in and out of the door jamb as best I could. None of this made a difference. What I've noticed is that if the switch doesn't work, I then operate the passenger door switch, and then suddenly the driver's side passenger switch will work (but not ALWAYS). Once the driver's side passenger switch works, it will continue to operate until I operate the passenger door switch. At this point the driver's side passenger switch usually ceases to work again.
