Cam timing spec 1976 911 2.7
Sorry to ask such a basic question:
I interpret the digital Porsche manual as saying that I should be looking for 0.4 to 0.54 mm intake valve lift at overlapping TDC on this engine. Is that correct? I don't want to go to the trouble of doing it and then use the wrong number!! I suppose that I get a bit nervous because of my uncertainty as to whether it counts as a 911 or a 911S. The engine number is 6360046, VIN 9116300045. |

I looked around and checked the info in Bruce Anderson as well. He only gives the timing (6 degrees ATDC) but that agrees with the timing in the Porsche manual as well, so it looks as though the 0.4 to 0.54 mm is the right number.
As an aside, it's interesting that my car here (from Japan) has a red cowl because my other '76 had a green one. |

Engine number 6360046 indicates that you have a 1976 "911" (based on the "3" in the number). To be more accurate, check for your "Type" number, i.e. 911/81, etc. The type number is found on a horizontal surface, to the right of the fan housing, near the engine number stamp. Your 0.4 - 0.54 number (with 0.1 mm valve clearance) does appear to be correct for your engine.
