Rear seat delete options: what was yours?

I plan to delete the rear seats in my car, including the rear speakers. My plan was to install rs carpets. The catch is that i want everything to be reversible. I might even want all mounting hardware accessable in case i ever want to install a bolt in harness support or roll bar system that uses oem attatchmrnt points.

So here are a few solutions i have found...

This is the full delete with rs carpets. Attachment hardware is removed, or made flush with insulation, and then covered.

Solution #2 is a hybrid. Hardware is either left exposed, or just hidden under the carpet set. Things do not look as flush, but it would be easier.

Here we have a bolt in cage system. Carpets seem pretty oem with seats just (partly) removed.

Would like to see how others approached this issue.

What bolt in cage is that? Could you mount harnesses to that? Is it even advisable? Not meaning to bash if it sounds that way, just trying to learn.

I have no idea. Google image. Looks like a 964 to me, but i am no expert. Just trying to show a concept. This setup does not look like a harness friendly one.

It looks like a Heigo cage and they offer a crossbar which can be used for belts

I built up the seat pans, etc. with closed cell foam and left all the seat hardware intact. Provides for a smooth look as well as some sound insulation.

Todd

p.s. - now that the kids are older, wish I had rear seats sometimes.

I am in the process of installing mine. I left all of stock mounting fixtures in place. I just didn't feel good about cutting anything off. I did build up areas with foam/sound deadening material to smooth things out a bit.

I did buy harness mounting bolts to install to make locating the stock seatbelt holes easy down the road.

What are your goals? When I do mine, I want a flat surface to put stuff on (such as a dog).

My goals are: looks good, light weight, reversible. Below seems to be a great compromise, and i may copy. May also expand on it with a rear panel delete.

Make (or buy) a luggage deposit...nice flat place to keep stuff and some hidden storage inside the car.

except people don't know how to route their seat belts correctly and endanger themselves. Yes, I know this is just a pic of the web

$350 shipped in 2004.

I can't believe the current asking price on these things.

Is it advised to not run three point belts through harness holes?

yes but not only that, probably even worse is the fact how the buckle is installed as seen on the driver seat. With that installation the lap belt will run not thru the seat openings on the inner side of the seat but ride on top of the seat. With most drivers this will not ensure a good position of the lap belt and greatly increase the risk of submarining

Good eye. Done properly, there are female ends with shorter stems.

Problem is, not every race seat is designed to be used with 3 point harnesses. As an example, the Recaro Pole Position, the ones I have in my car, are available in 2 different versions, the FIA and the street version. The street ("KBA") version is formed slightly different to make room for the buckle of a 3 point belt.

Standard RS fair with a rollbar and the front seats pushed back and lowered providing the best legroom for me.
