Quick fuel pump question

I have searched this before and thought I knew the answer, and saved the
thread but cant seem to find it.

I have an 87 Carrera Targa that is in need of a fuel pump. I thought I read
here on the board where a crossover BOSCH pump. I seem to recall a BMW
part number?

I just called to order the pump and couldn't recall the part number. That 190
buck sticker shock. I thought the thread I found said it was 135-140 or so.
Also, a part number for the in tank filter if you may know. It is 50 from our
host.

Thanks much,
Scott

After a quick look-up for Bosch fuel pumps for an '87Sc I came up with the Bosch part number:

0 580 464 069

Bosch Vehicle Component Applications Parts Catalogue

Good luck!

I kept this record of the fuel tank screen, but it looks like I bought a sealing ring to go with it for $5 more. don't recall if it came with because I wrote the number down for it as if it was separate.

At $50, the screen and seal are a little over dealer list. While replacing the seal is a must, the screen can, if it's undamaged, be cleaned and reused. $190 for the pump is less than half of list. Pardon me for saying this, but if $190 for a fuel pump is too steep for you, maybe you're driving the wrong car. BTW, the stock pump for a 356 is about $432, making yours look pretty inexpensive.

Steely, thanks for those photo's. I've seen some pretty horrible looking
filters and I'm sure mine will look very much like yours. It along with
some hose are already on my parts list that is being held.

Question:
By chance when you removed yours did you happen to run your finger
around inside the tank to see how much funk was in inside? I wouldn't
be at all surprised if I need to remove to be cleaned.

I purchased this car after building and selling a boat 5 years ago to
help me get off the couch and keep moving. When I figured out being
beat up by a nice inshore chop did me no good, I went for my childhood
dream car Being a disabled Vet. I try to save where I can. If I am able
to save 20-30 dollars on a part I'll do my best. I fully expected someone
would have a reply about me wanting to save money on a 200 dollar part.
Several of our parts crossover to lesser expensive, just because they
do not have a crest. Funny how some posts draw a certain reply while
others seeking a relay and finding it less expensive from BMW, do not.

Thanks for your help guys,
Scott

Scott, no, that sounds like a good idea that never crossed my mind.
Sorry the pics posted sideways. There was a little bit of rust, but no gunk on the screen on in the middle of the bottom piece, but I am sure it wasn't pretty in there. I'd considered it for cleaning, but I wasn't sure if the thin screen would last longer, and the frame itself is plastic. I had the means at the time and was also doing the FP and the fuel lines, so this was a while-yer-in-there job.

slightly off-topic, I replaced my speed and ref sensors with BMW parts - still Bosch products at half the price - one inch longer for convenience too if I recall correctly - should you ever need'em.

peace,
Dan

Dan,

INDEED!! I have read this also and haven't forgotten. I may still have
to replace those. It will be my last result to fix the issue I currently have.
I have either tested or replaced everything else.

Cheers
Scott

I'm sure I read on the forum someplace that the pump is also used on another
car. I just cannot for the life of me find that post again.

OKAY, I found some information. our pump is used on a host of vehicles.
The BOSCH part number is 69458

I also found this thread to be quite interesting.
Which BOSCH fuel pump is correct?
