1970 911T Lightweight Build

This a continuation of my thread that originally started as a motor rebuild thread which then turned into a Lightweight IROC build based of a 70' T. Here is the original thread

Here is my latest update...

A post is long overdue on the project. The past few months have gone by so fast with the project. We finally locked in an engine (85' 3.2L w/ 32k miles), got a 915 transmission, revamped the entire suspension system, painted the interior, cleaned up more rust, rebuilt all brake calipers, bumped up to 17" wheels, and powder coated all sorts of parts. Within the next few weeks it's heading off to TLG to have the engine and trans married to the chassis. There came a point I was becoming skeptical as to the progress we were making. When you see visit after visit of no suspension arms hanging off the chassis and work seems to be moving slower than molasses in the dead of winter it wears on you. This weekend was a breath of fresh air for the build. Being able to finally hang up the freshly powder coated rear arms with fresh mono balls and Rebel rear bushings felt unbelievable.

What really stood out for me this weekend was being able to work on the very car that my father raced at POC and PCA events in San Diego who drive the wheels off this car as I stood spectator in the back of the pickup. I was about 5-6 years old at this time. This entire experience has not only brought me closer to the car I lusted over as a child but even closer with my father. For those that have helped me along the what with this project (Marco from TLG has been a massive support)I'd just like to say Thank You. Throughout the build I've made some good decisions, some bad decisions, learned a lot about building a car, and gained some great friends in the process. With that said, there's more progress to some.

Complete fiberglass body kit (hood, front fenders, rear fenders, wail tail, and bumpers) and a blank interior. Target weight is in the 2100lbs ball park.

I was going for a Ben-hur look.
The current wheels however hide them nicely but I am worried when I finally bump up to a proper wheel.

Nice to see Factory overspray under the aluminum dash cover.

Upgraded to Aluminum pistons from Sierra Madre Collection and both S calipers received a complete rebuild and seal replacement.

This dates back to the early 80's when my father was driving the car with the modified 2.2L Wayne Baker engine, prior to the 2.5L install. Check out those White steel wheels.

We found a little bit of rust along the front on the car, nothing serious just surface, so we decided to sand/walnut blast the front end and apply a fresh coat of paint.

Two friends reunite after being apart for 20+yrs, rear bumper and chassis. Now the car is starting to look whole.

Hand cut aluminum floor boards are being made for both passenger and driver side. They'll be help down with countersunk machine screw followed by grip tape to help keep feet in place.

Rather than paint we're going the route of wrapping and we've narrowed it down to four options: Satin White, Matte Orange, Sky Blue, and Intense Blue. Any thoughts?

I like the Orange seems to go with 70's roots. Keep us up to date on the wrap I am considering that for my project as my budget will be tapped when I get it roadworthy.

Today was a big day for the car and tomorrow is even bigger. After being off the road for just over 25yrs it is now received its VIN verification along with the order of personalized plates. During it's brief visit at AAA for VIN verification I was told it gained quite an audience with all sorts of interest, all good. We figured it was fitting to get the California Whale Tail personalized plate and turns out it's original personalized plate letting was still available. Kinda shocking it was available after being on the open market for 25yrs.
Tomorrow it heads off the TLG Auto in North Hollywood for it's 3.2L heart transplant along with a few other odds and end.
Outside of the engine being installed, OMP First-R seats and WRC steering wheel are in route (Thank You OMP for the support!!) and yesterday I purchased a AutoPower Industries bolt-in roll cage. Things are getting very interesting.

Orange was top contender but we made the decision on Sky Blue. We're using 3M's 1080 Sky Blue car wrap cast and graphics are being printed to replicate the vintage IROC cars.

1846lbs... What did you do?

I just picked up a AutoPower Bolt-in cage for the car on Friday which should only add 50lbs or so.

It's been a while since I've updated the thread but that doesn't mean the project has been stagnant. In fact, there has been quite a bit going on. After dropping the car off at TLG we acquired a AutoPower Bolt-In roll cage, Falken 615K 235/40-17 front tires and 275/40-17 rear tires, forward dated the fuel system and oil system, OMP WRC Seats and steering wheel, and a few other goodies. OMP helped out in a massive way and I'm more than looking forward to installing the seats into the car.

Received a photo from Marco @TLG that caused me to take a moment and reflect on the entire project. There hasn't been a motor in the chassis for over 25yrs. Super amazing day!
