Updating Mirrors Question
I want to update my mirrors to the painted '76-up flag style mirrors (my '75 has the chrome ones). My question is:
Would there be bodywork involved on the doors and would the newer mirrors cover all the holes from the old ones? Also, were the newer mirrors made in non-electric form?

 Was this a dumb question? Is it a question that has been beaten to death and everyone is tired of answering it? Have I offended everyone? Should I just take my 911S and go home?

Ed, I don't know...
... the answer. But I am looking for a right hand side mirror.
I believe mine has three holes, two for positioning studs and one to hook in. There was one on ebay but it doesn't include the picture. I think your question is a good one. Frank |

Hey Ed,
Just find a set of power flags with bad motors for cheap. Throw a WTB(want to buy) ad for a set up on the Pelican 911 used parts board. The swap meet in a couple weeks may be a good place to look as well. I'll keep my eyes open for a set as well. Mark ps - have you tried the vasolene trick on the fuchs yet? |

I also have a 75 model with 1 chrome mirror.
I want to give my car a new paint job. I have already purchased two new updated mirrors. My dilema now is do I really wan't to put them on and drill holes in my passenger door. In response to your question . Yes you should be able to put the new mirrors over the old holes. But you need to drill more holes (3). My car is fully chomed and original, but i personaly don't like that look on a post 73 model. Now that im thinking of painting it. Do I detroy all the chrome and originality of the car (and enjoy the look of my car)?? OR do I remove the spoilers keep the chrome and re-pray it to look as it does now but original (keep re-sale value). ????? |

Unfotunately, the mirror upgrade was performed on my 76 coupe by the PO. As the vehicle is blk/blk the chrome trim really adds to the "look" and the chrome mirrors would have been the icing...
If you are to update, dont forget about about the reinforcement bracket/plates for those mirrors. My doors were almost destroyed due to the fact that the PO's installer overlooked this piece of the installation. I wont post the shop's identity here simply because he has a loyal following and I, as an outsider, dont want to hear any "BS" from his fan club. Ed if you need the part numbers try a search under my username as Mr. Roland provided me with the specifics on a thread several months ago (thanks again Roland). Good Luck...IMO stay with the chrome mirrors, the passenger side mirror is available... |

Ed, I had only one drivers side mirror on my 1977 911S and wanted to balance things out when I painted the car last winter. I found a matching used one from Oklahoma Parts. I had to drill/file out 3 new holes for the passenger side installation. I found a problem with getting the correct angle so that it would appear to mount at a 90 deg. angle and had to redo it once. It was no problem because it was in the pre-paint stage. The mirror was an electric one but, I just did'nt hook it up as such. The spot that I ended up mounting it to was just about in the middle of the vent glass which is somewhat different than the drivers side location.Be careful in installing the new one because the hardware protrusions will alter your placement position once the holes are drilled.

I did try the vasolene trick on a small area of one my wheels and it looks 100% better  I am getting new tires and lugs soon at which time I plan on doing the wheels. Thanks for the tip!Dood, My 911S doesn't even have the original chrome mirrors  For some reason, the PO removed them and put ugly (IMO) aftermarket mirrors on it. Otherwise you would be welcome to them.
