Post HERE IT IS: 101 Projects Tech Quiz - WIN A FREE COPY!!!

101 Projects for your Porsche 911 Tech Quiz

Answer these questions correctly, and you can win a free copy of my new book! All you need to do is to agree to write a 1500-2000 word review of the book, and place it on Amazon.com and Barnes & Nobles (bn.com), and also email it to me, so that I can place it on the Rennlist, the Pelican Parts BBS, and the official home page for the book, http://www.101projects.com.

Ok so what are the questions? The answers to all these questions can be found somewhere inside the book (gives you an idea of what information is inside). All questions are for a 1982 911SC, unless there is another specific year mentioned.

1. How many fasteners hold in the front dash pad on a 1973 911? Please answer with the total number of plastic snaps, and the total number of embedded studs.

2. On a Mechanical Fuel Injection pump, which direction do you turn the low-rpm or idle mixture adjustment screw to richen up the mixture?

3. What is the part number of the aftermarket points that fit the older Marelli distributors?

4. In what year, did Porsche use a 340 F degree oil temperature gauge module in the dashboard?

5. From 1965-89, how many different production 'tails' were implemented, and what were their commonly-referred to names?

6. Old-style sunroof cables are no longer available. What modifications must be done to the newer 964 cables in order to install them in an 911SC?

7. How many bushings are replaced when upgrading to the bronze pedal bushing kit (non-power brake 911)?

8. What is the best way to fix rocker arm oil leaks? What is the part number that is used in this fix?

9. Which one is the brown chain ramp?

10. Why do you need to place the engine at Top Dead Center (TDC) for cylinder #1 when installing the Carrera Chain Tensioner kit?

11. What is Porsche tool 9191, and what is it used for?

12. How many shims total should you have on your fan pulley?

13. How can you usually tell the difference between a Factory Turbo Look, and a conversion?

14. What popular "office supplies" product is invaluable for installing your headliner? (not glue)

15. What is the difference between the original rear spring-plate bushings, and the replacement ones?

16. On the rear trailing arm of the 911SC, what are the four adjustment nuts used for? (also specify their location from back to front)

17. Besides the engine, list 5 specific differences between the early 912s and the 911.

18. What tool should you always use to disconnect hard brake lines from the car?

19. 'Y' tires are rated for what maximum speed?

20. What issue of Consumer Reports did an indepth overview of motor oils and how they affect your car's performane?

I will be very impressed if someone gets all of these correct. All of the answers are available elsewhere, but you will have a hard time looking them up, if you don't know them in your head, or don't have a copy of my book. (of course the whole point is to show how much useful info's inside the book)

So, anyways please email your answers to wayne@pelicanparts.com. I will compile them, and pick the people with the top scores early next week. If there are any ties, I will randomly pick winners from those who are tied with the top answers!

Thanks everyone and GOOD LUCK!!!

So if I can't yet buy the book, how do I give you the answers?

By the way, pick me for an Australian book review!

If I knew all those answers, I wouldn't need the book.

Nice try Wayne!
I go along with the others; if I had even half an idea of what you're asking I would either have the book in front of me or I'd be a pro / full time wrench.
I suggest you give the freebie to the poor sod who thinks he knows it all but gets the whole lot wrong - he seriously needs it!
I'm going to buy the book anyway and would be happy to review it wherever you like.

I ordered a book so I don't much care about winning a free one.

But give people a chance Wayne. That "quiz" is completely rediculous. Why don't you just ask what color underwear Dr. Porsche was wearing when he first thought of the 911.

Not even worth trying. I'll bet people are just running off to their local library to find the issue of Consumer Reports that reports on oil.

"Why don't you just ask what color underwear Dr. Porsche was wearing when he first thought of the 911."

That's an easy one. they were leopard stripes.

I agree, though, that quiz is completely ridiculous. In addition to that, you ALSO need to write a 1500-2000 word essay for Amazon.com

who the hell has time and patience to write an essay! I was pissed off in college every time I had to write an essay I vowed never to write another essay in my life. and this to just save 30 bucks on a book?

I suppose when you have something to sell to make money, you'll do unordinary things. If I had a book to sell, maybe I would do all these things too.

Oh come on, it's not that bad. If you read the tech stuff just on this bulletin board you should know a lot of them. Now part numbers, that's another story. Foul!!!

Yikes, I didn't know I would have to put on my asbestos suit. I didn't want to make it too easy!

Seriously, I don't expect everyone to get them all correct, so just answer as best as you can, and you have nothing to lose.

Essay? I didn't say anything about an essay. If I'm going to be giving away free copies of the book, I would like the people getting those copies to review it for all to see. I'm not asking you to write an essay on the reconstruction era.
