Thanks everyone for the encouragement!

I plan to spend the day making small trips around town, watching and listening. There are lots of hills, so the tranny and brakes will get a good workout.

I'll be in Hendersonville. I'm planning to shoot lots of iphone images to post.

I'm also thinking about a new steering wheel...I like the 918-style thick grip in my Macan S. The rest will stay stock for now. It's really a beautiful car.

Ten days until the trip!!

Tomorrow, I leave on a work trip, and then on Sunday I'll be in NC to visit "my" 911 for the first time. Getting pumped up. So only four days to go.

New battery and oil change are happening Friday before I arrive (thanks Dad).

Probably drivingI-85 to Atlanta, then I-20 most of the way west to Texas...trying to stay south to avoid potential weather. If it gets really bad, south to I-10 and then the Gulf coast. Maybe Birmingham, Alabama or Jackson, Mississippi for the night.

Fingers crossed.

If it was not mentioned before the H4 headlight up grade is a very good idea.

My H5 lights where just terrible and the H4 upgrade is a big improvement even without the relays. You should do the relay upgrade if you are going to be using brighter bulbs with more watts.

The car is at the local Porsche shop, getting a once-over. The report card is that my Dad took extremely good care of the car. They are going to adjust the brakes, and I'll be picking it up Monday midday.

My Dad replaced the battery yesterday, and it cranked right over. He went for a spin and came back with a grin on his face. I was a little afraid he'd change his mind about letting me take the car, but he said its a deal.

So, less than 48 hours until I have my own 911. Hopefully I'll get some sleep in between. Planning on starting the 1000-mile journey home Tuesday.

Hitting the road home tomorrow with my 911SC. Can't figure out how to attach images with my ipad. It's a beauty, though. Nice surprise...it's got Limited Slip.

Hey Pilot_Dave,

Just thought I'd make a few suggestions----If traveling on I-20 West and want to turn south, best bet would be at the intersection of I-20 and I-59 on the west side of Meridian MS. At that point you will be within 15 minutes of 2 of the best independent Porsche mechanics anywhere in the South should you have concerns. I'll pm you my contact info.

As for spending the night in Jackson MS, don't do it. I'm from Jackson, live 15 minutes east of Jackson and will tell you it is quickly becoming the Detroit of the South. Suggest staying in Brandon (my home town) just east of Jackson or continue on to Vicksburg and spend the night at one of the casinos before you cross the MS River. Ameristar would be my choice. Well lit parking lot, good security and a week night room should be very reasonable.

Good luck in your travels!

Just a guy talkin', but I suspect those of us on this slippery slope with these cars would not have it any other way. Congrats on the new addition. And, per the forum - pics or it ain't happening - please post some as soon as you can. Congrats

Thanks for all the info, guys...especially the Vicksburg idea. That's where I'll go.

Is there a way on an ipad to attach photos? Or do I need full browser access? Anyone know?

Ok...leaving in the AM. Hope I can get some sleep...

Sweet, another p car in North Texas.
Fort Worth cars and coffee is every second Saturday in Montgomery Plaza. There is a strong Porsche presence. Every third Saturday Mayo performance has an open house, make sure you meet Tom (the shop like a porsche porn shop)

I look forward to meeting you and seeing the car.

My $0.02: I would suggest driving the car for a few long stretches in the NC area before her maiden voyage.
Take oil w you, belt, DME relay,Fuses, etc....and make sure you have access to this forum on your phone during travels....if you should have any issues the hardcore Pellicans are lighting fast with responses. Should you decide to ship it, Horseless carriage is top notch.

Enjoy your trip

Here is how to work the heater controls
Heater controls 101. Plus, I'm not sure windshield vent is actually working.

Summary of HVAC controls:
There are 3 rows of levers on the dash.
The top row controls fresh air only. Top left lever controls amount of fresh air. Top right controls fan speed.
The middle row directs fresh air up or down.
The bottom row directs HEAT air up or down.

The floor levers control heat.
Pull up on the lever, and it turns on the blower motor mounted on the engine itself.
The lever also control the butterfly air mixing valves underneath the car.

The round console dial controls the footwell blower speed. These may be dead or stuck on your car.
When you turn the red dial, you should hear fans down at your feet at the kick panel.

Well I am back but cautiously. I joined Pelicans because of the extensive information. I too had been looking for a car that was not like any other. I viewed the Citroen an well ended up viewing and dreaming of the P car. I found one in Houston, took a flight and bought it This past November 2014. I purchased it from Victory Motor Cars. Hold on it is called Ruby. Yep, I own a 1983 SC Ruby Red Metallic. I too am totally new to the Porsche family. I reside in Austin and look for days when I can meet others to learn about the best car ever. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you.

I did get rid of the 17" upgrades and purchase Fuchs on ebay. Oh yes I did get my personalized plates.

That's really interesting...another Ruby Red SC in Texas!

Made it to the Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg, as suggested. Good night's sleep, and back on the road. My "Ruby" is doing great, and I appreciate the environmental control info, big time.

Pilot Dave, I too am happy for you and do apologize for going off on my car. New to this also and excited someone else has the unique exterior color. I hope your travels are better than the weather up north. How is the car feel? Stays warm? Do you have a sunroof?
