Road trip to pick up my first 911

Well, it's neither rare nor objectively special, but this 1988 Targa is in good working order and, most importantly, it'll be all mine on Thursday!

I have been lurking on Pelican reading and looking at too many photos to count. Y'all are insane and fantastic and amazing and I fear what will happen when I get truly hooked, and want to lower and backdate and track prep this thing and ... and ... and ...

Please be gentle.

I'm flying from home in MSP to Denver to get the car, then driving it across to Saint Louis and down to Alabama where it'll winter with my father.

Enjoy the trip! Done many POR daily driver road trips, rain shine or snow. Cars were always in good working order without getting anal over it. Those cars never let me down. Maybe you want to take along some black duct tape for Targa seals, just in case.

Awesome! Very happy for you. I was you in August. I flew to Boston (first time there) from atlantic Canada, picked up my car, and then drove it north, and then ferried it overnight to where I lived. I drove straight to work from the ferry after registering it (which took longer than anticipated). It was incredible, and a dream come true. IT was also kind of crazy when I look back. I left my gas cap at a station on the way (I was exhausted), and I arrived at work 30 minutes late a bit sweaty having just hopped out of my loud, awesome, air cooled porsche!!!

God that was a whirlwind two days. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Enjoy!

Wow, great story!

I hope this is a fun but uneventful trip :-). I built in some extra time, too, just in case.

Congratulations!

When I bought my car I flew down to Newark, NJ, and then drove my 'new' Porsche home through a little bit of snow. It was perfect! And yes, importing it into Canada took more time than I figured, but you don't have to deal with that sort of thing, so enjoy. . .

Have fun and stay safe.

Congratulations .
Looks a great car !!

My "emergency bag" always used to contain a pair of latex gloves , spare dme relay , small pack of assorted fuses , mini mag light , an old leather man , and a mobil1 top-up .
Plus the obligatory cellphone , aaa card , and spare cigarettes and lighter

Not sure if you'd get through airport security with this bag these days !!

Have a good trip , stay safe , and ENJOY

The road trip is truly a great beginning to 911 ownership. For many of us, it's an experience that was years in the making. You're on "cloud 911" the entire time!

Congrats, take pictures and enjoy the ride!

Great looking car.

Good on you doing the research from this site and others, and making an educated choice.

In regards to the oil. Check and Fill to middle of the dip stick marks, ONLY when the car is on, level ground and at full operating temps. DO NOT FILL WHEN COLD or TOP OFF, just fill to the middle of the marks.

When cold she will show low, this is normal.

Throw a bottle of Techron, she will like it. or Do a couple of Italian Tune Ups after she is completely warmed up.

Make sure you got Pelican Forum on your smart phone. So we can trouble shoot if you need us.

Jim
