Thanks for all the great responses.

What type of budget is required for a street car that will only be driven 2k miles yearly on CT roads?

I really want to build something that is raw, tight, vocal and tactile. I am blessed enough to have amassed a small collection of vehicles with performance envelopes that far exceed domestic speed limits and my own driving abilities. The inability to make their engines sing without a jail sentence is starting to lose its shine. I want to buy the illusion of speed. Ultra high performance braking and cornering is the least of my concerns (a track car, this will never be). But, the thought of finally being able to red line a few gears (without going ballistic speeds) in a great looking RSR with a stout flat six makes me tingle.

Thanks,

David

Sounds like what you want is a fiberglass bodied VW.

David, if you are interested in having an RSR replica built to your specification send me a PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call with the answer to your budget question.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421979857.jpg

Something like this may be a better alternative...

Maybe this bicycle powered 911 with a good blue tooth stereo, done with the RS body style? I'm sure it will fit the bill for not handling like a track car. ;)

I think you've done a pretty good job of laying out your goals here, and they aren't far from my own personal wish-list for these sorts of cars. I'm coming from the same position of having tired of driving supercars on the street, so one of the cars we're building right now is a similar fantasy 911.

This idea that a nice street car will cost $200k is, in my opinion, absurd. I'm sure this is why so many people are offering to build the car for you.

I wouldn't even bother with having a car built unless there is something specific about the build that requires that you start from scratch -- paint color, I guess? I've seen several very nice builds sell for pennies on the dollar and I think there are enough out there that you could buy something already made that would tick your boxes, for somewhere around $45-75k. Take a look at some of the previous ads in the "Cars For Sale" forum.

That said, frankly, I don't think your requirements are hard to fulfill at all, and a budget of $75-100k should still net you a really nice custom car, even starting from scratch and allowing for project creep. What am I missing? What are these guys charging for labor?

We have 3 RSRish builds (all with 993 motors) and 3 early 911 restorations underway at the moment. All of them will fall in the range of $75-100k complete.

The green car pictured above is for myself and features a somewhat modified 3.8 liter motor and (like all of our cars) was stripped of every bolt before being hand built back to like new condition. As with all of our cars every moving part has been renewed or replaced with new and in many cases have been upgraded to improve upon the already wonderful build of an original Porsche. This car would probably slightly exceed the $100k price if it was reproduced but it includes the absolute best of everything including a $4500 exhaust system and an equally expensive fuel cell. It also includes all modern civilities such as A/C and heat. It weighs in under 2400# and, although not yet dynoed, it should produce around 320hp.

$200k would seem excessive for such a project.

I'm currently building a similar car. Its a 75 that I'm backdating to 73 rsr appearance including center fill gas cap. The car spent months on the rotisserie, during which time everything was gone through, and the underside/wheel wells were painted. All nuts/bolts/ etc have been either replaced or replated. The car has all 930 suspension/brakes that have been refreshed. The motor is a fully built 3.4 turbo with k27. Headlights are HIDs, all trim is chrome, interior will be black basketweave with Vintage Seats "RS seats". Dash will be backdated with Classic Radio. The car will be done in ~ 3 months. Its leaving for the paintshop in the next couple weeks. Final Color is a Battleship Grey. PM me if interested.

Who is the best builder of these in the USA?

Best,

CT

Sol at Perfect Power is building one as we speak. Its based off a 92 c2. No expense spared. It has a 4.1L motor with a Rothsport rsr injection. It should be completed by spring

Would love to work with you. I just to let you know I was the top mechanic and design chief at Motor Meister, so my skill at Porsche builds speaks for its self.

Put that in green next time so I know you're being sarcastic. SmileWavy
