993 C2, 1995 Pre-ignition / pinging… or?

I purchased my dream car some month ago at a very reasonably price, and was aware that it hesitated and had some knocking sound during acceleration, especially when going uphill.

I have changed the Injection relays, distributor caps, sparking plugs, and but on a K&N Air filter. The hesitation has disappeared, but the “pinging” is still going strong.

2 Porsche specialists have checked it by computer, and no errors have been found. They both had the same comment… yes it could be pinging, but the ping frequency was somehow not steady, which gave them the idea that it could be some kind of suspension or whatnot knock sound.
The car stayed with one of them for 2 days, and nothing was found. “Strange” was the comment, followed by indication that we might end up taking the engine apart.
For me will it be the absolute last solution, and I was hoping that someone out there have some golden ideas.

Engine has 32.000 km on it, but it can easily be the double considering that fiddling with the meter out here, is more the rule than the exception.

The fuel quality here in Hong Kong is top class (98 octane), but have however tried the fuel additive… with no improvement.

Distributor belt has been found OK.

HELP

Major problem finally solved in 1 minute!!! ;-)

After 6 month slow driving… countless visits to P-Car specialists… did I finally leave the car with the Porsche dealer in Hong Kong.

It took them a full 3 days to detect the problem, and only 1 minute to fix it…

Ignition cables on cylinder 1 and 5 had been switch around by the previous owner… I didn’t know if I should cry or laugh ;-( ;-)

No computer could detect this situation… only a repair man who was thinking simple enough.
